I dread to think of his Haribo intake in the build up to the club 10!

It's a good job he wasn't tested, I reckon he must have been well above the limit set out by WADA for spog consumption!

When I say sanity, that automatically precludes Martin Lucas. Anyone who can ride on a glass smooth, pan flat road, on a lovely sunny day, amidst beautiful surroundings, just because he hasn't had his Haribo fix, is clinically insane. That was 2006.....things havn't really improved much since then!!!!!

Brad.

But he can still wup my ass.....so I havn't improved either :[

Hi Greg,

I think I can safely say that I am the newest member of Ravensthorpe CC. I would definitely recommend coming along for a club run on either the Saturday or Sunday.

I was always a little reluctant about joining a club and having my legs ripped off, not being able to keep up etc.. but it's not that kind of club. If you're struggling then people will always wait up for you.

They're a very accommodating bunch of chaps so you should not be worried in that regard. The Saturday run up to the Windmills cafe is a nice steady ride and would be a nice 'ice breaker' for you.

Hope to see you soon.

Hi Greg,
You'll be fine as long as you don't try to stick with Matt. His moniker isn't Alf Wheeler for nothing! The rest of us are a sane bunch who like an occasional dig, and as Matt says, we don't mind waiting at all. We all joined a club with the same concerns as you. No worries mate, get yourself down on a Saturday for starters. Sundays at this time of year can vary in group size, some riders are off doing the big Sportive Challenge rides. Personally I can't wait to get back to the sanity of clubruns!!

Hi Greg,

Nice to hear of another newbie to the cycling world. I joined the club last year and had pondered joining for a long time (doubts about fitness, speed, the kind of cyclists in the club etc etc).

I'm so glad that I did because it has opened up another world of possibilities, time trialling, racing, social rides in bigish groups and the backing of some extremely knowledgable guys (not to mention riding with a two stage winner of the TdF and a British pursuit champion).

I was very concerned about the pace and holding people up before my first rides but no need to worry at all, there will always be someone to ride with you if you are struggling but you will be fine if you try a Saturday ride (0930 from Ha'penny Bridge by the Pear Tree pub).

From Mirfield to the Windmill cafe just near Penistone and back again is 38 miles and averages anywhere from 12-15 MPH. If I cannot ride on a Sunday, I do the Saturday Cafe run but put an extra loop on before and/or after to get some more milage at a brisker pace.

There has been 5 new members in the last few months so you will not be alone, so to speak!

It would be great to see you down somtime, if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact us or you can ring me on 07758 240071 if you want a chat.
