Good idea!
Just to build on your idea……..
What if the club promoted a local school “Design a poster” competition to promote the club and (fingers crossed) new club room.
Possibly win a bike (or bike related prize) from a locally donated cycle shop.
This would raise the profile of the club, school, cycling & local bike shop/s. I’m sure we’d get some media exposure too…..
Win:Win all round!

If the above idea doesn’t find favour, my mate Hal Eccles (who is currently finishing off the DVD for Lynda’s Ride) might be up for this. He is a very talented Graphic Designer.
I’ll have a word, if you like, Captain Al!!

Like the design a poster idea, would be fantastic for the winner and give us such wide publicity.

Hi
A couple of points, it depends on what we are trying to get across?
If we ask schools kids to design a poster, without a clear design brief are we going to get something which portrays the message the club is trying to get over and attract new members?
We then need committment from our own members to take these out into the community. Libraries, sports centres ,schools?
last time I did some, and asked for help distributing and it fell flat.
We can also look to use the papers, i got a piece in the paper about the AGM, we’ll get something when we move clubhouse.
If anyone has a digital camera ( mine broke from too much use!) let’s get some pics from club runs etc on the web site?

Martyn, Yes i agree.
If we were to do a competition we would have to have a well thought out strategy. Possible coincide with the TDF or Bike week in the summer with a programme of events to follow up the interest (which would need quite a bit of commitment from club members etc etc).

Don’t know about you but think there could be two strands of thought running here that we could pursue? 1 being that someone needs to design a general poster that we can put up in libraries, shops etc to encourage new members ASAP- I particularly like Dougs idea of asking Hal as he has the design skills to make it really effective and eye catching.
Secondly alongside that it may well be good to pursue the idea of kids designing a poster like said with a possible prize incentive at a strategic point in the year like for example the TDF. Hopefully Brad for example may be well placed as a parent of someone at MFG if he is willing to have a word with the teachers nearer the time? But we could discuss this at meetings.
For now though maybe we could just try and get a bright, cheerful poster up to encourage new members.

Also, what about a Calendar for 2010? Bit late for 2009 now. I was thinking pictures of some of the fantastic scenery we see when out on club runs? There are some pretty good pictures on the Facebook blog that some of the guys have posted… Just an idea.

I have spoken to Hal, who is happy to design a poster provided we tell him more or less what we want included on the design. He will be at the Lynda’s Ride reunion on the 12th November, so it might be worth having a word then.

Sounds great - we’ll have a think and devise a plan so we can speak to him on the night, cheers
