Club Run - Mirfield to Wycoller 16/11/2008

Club run report 16th November 2008 to Wycoller  - Present were Alex Millman, Robert Bradby, Dave Sugden, Doug Tomlinson, Phil Johnson, Martyn Bolt and Craig Johnson. Left Mirfield on a lovely sunny morning heading towards Keighley  via Queensbury where Dave turned back. A quick morning brew at Rossi’s cafe where we said bye to Brad who had been on a night shift and needed some well earned kip (puff). Then on to Wycoller where just before we arrived Martyn had a puncture - AGAIN !! Had some delicious local delicacy of pie and peas with red cabbage and raw onion (it is yummy honest) and lashings of gravy - not for 65p unfortunately. Then a fabulous run back in glorious weather over the gruelling Widdop Moors down into Hebden Bridge and a drag race back home to sunny Mirfield. Total distance 65 miles, average 15 mph.

The ride out through Brighouse and Lightcliffe ( good name for a brass band?) was one we haven’t used for a while and made a pleasant change.

Widdop moor although a bit lumpy was also fairly traffic free and great scenery.

Just the right time out as well as it was getting cooler and darker as we got home.

A good run well lead Alex.

Don’t moan about punctures, at least i managed to keep my bike all day this time!

  2. Al and Sarah says:

    Thats true !

    Good route that Cap’n.

Rode over Widdop from Trawden earlier this year and it’s got a very steep start to it (good job I wasn’t there to act as ballast!!). It has cracking scenery though and by the sounds of it the whole route was as well.

I will have to use my annual club run pass out the next time it’s on the runs list.

Dear friends, It was very pleasing when we met again, this time at Wycoller, & we look forward to visiting you again, when you are in your “new” home in Batteford.

The possibilities of approaching training for ALL cycling activities is very interesting, for we hope, our “input” proves worthwhile & in the meantime, please write your GOOD & BAD aspects of CYCLING pedalling styles, & we, togther, will try to make your pedalling more eficient than previous.

Cheers for now, Ken Hobson & Pauline Farrell, Guiseley

Spelling error in previous letter to blog, “EFFICIENT” sorry about that, don’t forget Ken Hobson is 79yrs & counting, Cheers once again, Ken & Pauline.

On Sunday at Wycoller, I showed Martyn, a LATEX strip, which is available at sports stores, This is useful, should your shoulders become cold, when out of the bike & stopped when “somebody” has punctured, as Martyn did on Sunday.

The stretch band costs around £ for 3 different strengths & will slip into cycling jacket pocket.

Try one & comment back, Thanks again, Ken & Pauline, Guiseley

PS, Does Ravensthorpe Cycling Club offer REDUCED membership rates to OLD AGE PENSIONERS, ???, & please also tell “Robbo”, that Pauline says having seen his photo in Cycling Weekly at Dave Rayner dinner, the MAKE UP LADY did a GOOD JOB.

  6. Doug says:
