Club Run Report - 28/12/2008 - present were Alex Millman, Doug Tomlinson, Craig Newton, Craig Johnson, Robert Bradby, Morris Legood, Andy Cropper, Harry Dixon, Phil Rounding, Derrick Milner, Les Dawson, Martyn Bolt and Paul Brierley. We set straight off up Hopton Hill which was very tough on the legs on a very cold morning, at the summit Bolty’s phone rang which turned out to be Brad saying he’d had a puncture (the considered opinion was he’d slept in but I believe you Brad !!). We continued at a slower pace over Grange Moor then Emley Moor where Brad caught us and then on to Shelley Garden centre where we met an old friend Andy Cropper. We then proceeded on the back lanes through Cawthorne and Royston to NewMillar Dam where we stopped for lunch and met up with Harry, Phil and Derrick. The route back was over Woolley Edge, down to Scissett and back over Grange Moor to home. Ride was 48 miles, average speed 14.7 mph.Hope to see everyone on New Years Day - even if you’re boring and not competing (Doug), it would be good to see everyone supporting the event and joining us for a drink at The Old Colonial afterwards.
If anyone is interested I have a long sleeved jersey - size large that is a little on the small side for me - always was really so no jokes about christmas please ! Hardly used, was thinking £15 is a fair price if anyone needs one.
If anyone is interested, I am going out for a short ride in the morning. I will be at the Fountain pub at 9am. If you are interested, send me a txt message on 07887 943223 a.s.a.p. Time can be altered, run to be determined - 2/3 hrs.
Twas the ride before Christmas and all round the town, the thorpers were sleeping,
So Phil, Richard, martyn, Andy Colter and a new rider Mark Sadler from Norristhorpe set off on a grey windy day to Wigfield farm. Over emley, down towards denby Dale, cawthorne, Silkstone, Hood green and the famr shop.
The welcome was as jovial as ever and paul was there on his MTB,. Also there were Brian and Kathleen.
Returning via Dodworth, Darton, Bretton and Thornhill we were back quite early and without getting to wet.
Stats =75.6 kms @23.2 kph
Normal service will be resumed when Al doesn’t have to bake all your bread and cakes for Christmas
The draw has taken place today in the McCall household for the starting order for the fancy dress event for the 1 lap event of the Hartshead circuit.
Set of balls two and machine Excaliber were used, with drawmaster Alfie the dog in attendance from lottery HQ to ensure all names on the paper dropped on the floor were swiftly eaten. Holly and Francesca McCall were there to confuse matters further to an almost manic level. Order was retained by the level headed control by Mrs Anne “WHAT? I’m the time keeper? You didn’t tell me about that you *$*!$” McCall (thank goodness one of us is almost sane!!!)
The order is as follows.
1st rider off at around 1201!!!! (But I suppose we can be flexible on this, just whenever we are all somewhere near ready and had the embarrasing photos taken for posterity.)
1 El Presdientee himself- Phil Rounding
2 Tandem king and queen, Andy and Linda Callaghan.
3 The only Lady rider insane enough (and not pregnant)enough not to find an excuse, Angela
4 Rob Bradby chasing his squeeze down for the 4.5 miles.
5 Andy Colter tight up behind his good mate Brad!!
6 Craig “the big fairy”(and that’s not even his fancy dress) Johnson
7 John Callaghan the drunken good for nothing tax dodging student.
8 Alastair “I’m not saying anything against him as he will sue my ass off as soon as I even THINK of anything”Wareham
9 Steve Mccall-I’m gonna get you by the 2nd corner, you big lumbering lawyer!!
10 Alex (the Mavis of the fancy dress world”I don’t really know”) Millman.
Course details are Start at the church and keep turning left at every junction!!!!! If you get lost that’s yer own fault and you take the consequences of aimlessly pedalling around Windybank estate dressed as some gimp servant thing Perish the thought!!
Seriously for anyone that dosen’t know (Alastair “GPS” Wareham and Andy “routemaster” Callaghan) here is the link for the route.
Any late entries are most welcome to turn up on the day and set off after the last rider.
Drinks will be available behind the bar at the Old colonial as soon as we’re done.
The menu is attached below, please can you let me know what you fancy by Sunday 28th evening at the very latest. My mobile number is 07758 240071 and E-mail stevemccall@talktalk.net.
