Saturday rides/spills
Firstly, some bad news. A couple of riders had a spill today on the cafe run. I wasn’t there but understand John Craddock was taking the 90 degree bend as you drop into Shelley from Emley and came off injuring himself and required an ambulance and admittance to hospital
No news on condition as yet.
dave Sugden was following on and may have fallen avoiding John but didn’t need ambulance.
The roads were very slippy today and the stretches near the cafe had ice across the whole road
I wonder if we’d be safer moving back to the 0930 or slightly later to allow the ice to melt on the quiet roads. What seems to happen is if younger riders set off close to the older ones, they move earlier as they only want a steady ride, if we aren’t careful we’ll need lights to start!
The windmills will be closed from Xmas eve to 10th january so we’ll need an alternative then

The roads to the windmills were very bad this morning with black ice in many places. The ice was still on the roads as we returned after 11am. I caught up with the group just after the spill. John suffered a bad cut to the back of his head, and Dave suffered cuts to his face and was complaining of rib pain. Both left in the ambulance, but were in good spirits, get well soon guys!
On a positive note, Phil commented on the amount of motorists that stopped and offered assistance. So if any are reading, many thanks for the assistance given and concern shown. Proves that the bad motorist is still in the minority. Thanks should also be expressed to the officer that attended the accident, a cyclist himself. The police suffer regular bad publicity, but he was extremely proffesional and showed genuine concern, even finding time to thank us for helping him with the traffic control, as he attended on his own.
(Maybe a letter from the club thanking him)
Hope someone posts the guys condition when its known.

BBoth John and Dave were allowed home from hospital but will be very sore today. Luckily Johns head wasn:t fractured but needed several stitches, he also has 1 broken rib and a few cracked ones. Dave has bad bruising but no broken bones. It shows the benefits of a crash hat.
