Club Run - Mirfield to Askern 04/01/2009

Club Run Report 04/01/2009 - present were Alex Millman, Doug Tomlinson, Martyn Lucas, Steve McCall, Craig Johnson, Phil Johnson, Craig Newton, Robert Bradby, Alastair Wareham, John Callaghan and Andy Callaghan. We set off towards Dewsbury and quickly realised that Craig Newton wasn’t with us, couldn’t be seen so presumed he’d gone with the Sowerby team ? Hopefully he’s ok. We then went out on the usual route towards Castleford hoping to see Derrick but sadly not, where were you ?? There we had a brew. Immediately after leaving the cafe, John unfortunately slid off on a very slippy roundabout fortunately with no lasting damage hopefully to himself or the bike, however a warning to us all to tred carefully for the rest of the ride. We then headed out towards Fairburn, where Brad turned back as he had to wash his hair I think he said. We then proceeded along various back roads to Askern in all sorts of directions as El Capitano wasn’t entirely sure of the route. A well earned lunch was had at Askern, and a chance to warm up a little from the freezing temperatures outside. After lunch Phil and Martyn headed off on the direct route ahead of the rest, whilst Doug took the remaining group round some back roads of the outskirts of PonteCarlo, how he knows these mysterious back roads is left to your imagination. Ride statistics were 71 miles, average 15.7 mph. (This is strictly speaking El Capitanos average as he was ****** on the way back).  Apologies from Martyn Bolt who text to say he had hurt his back, obviously he’s been bending over backwards too much recently helping the community. Unfortunately he missed a cracking ride, a great distance and great pace for this time of year.
