Evening Training

Remember everyone this thursday 6pm at the club rooms for a good blast round hartshead circuit. Its ok to be late (Brad) just come up to the circuit and wait for us “all” coming round..

The club organised 10 is taking place on the 18th April on the V910 which is a lovely rolling course from Brotherton, Fairburn, Micklefield. I would like to remind you all that the entry date is the 7th April (next Tuesday!!!!!)
I’m bringing entry forms down on Thursday’s club night for anybody who wants to enter, it’s a great chance to ride your first time trial and support the club and the great organisation of Suggy.
We do need volunteers to marshall and generally help out (eg man the tea/cake stand). Even I did it last year after my ride, so come on and make an effort, if my wife with 2 hyper kids can lend a hand I’m sure you have some equally dysfunctional family who can help the club out. There is a playground/park near the clubhouse for kids.
Marshalling can be done in stints so you can be assured you won’t be left stranded for too long (unless your family really don’t like your company 
We need this to be a success to raise the profile of the club and support Dave in what must be a pig of a job.
Please volunteer yourself and/or coerce your loved ones into lending a hand and be part of the running of what will be a successful regular annual event.

Club Run - Mirfield to Womersley 29/03/2009

Club Run Report 29/03/2009 - present were Alex Millman, Martyn Bolt, Martin Lucas, Phil Johnson, Craig Newton, Robert Bradby, Richard Creaser, Dave Sugden, Derrick Milner, Mike Bastow, Jack de Bokx and Mark (sorry can’t remember his surname even though Craig did tell me !) A cold but wonderful start to British summertime, Brad was late for a change ! A fast pace from the onset which was interrupted briefly at Lofthouse Gate where Jack had a puncture. Soon sorted and headed on our way to castleford where I let Brad win the race for the sign, we stopped at the cafe to meet up with Dave, Martyn and Derrick. Then set off through the beautiful countryside to Womersley cafe for lunch where Richard flicked through the huge menu before settling for beans on toast with an egg on top once again ! We set off back through Askern, Wentbridge and disappeared on a mystery tour organised by Brad and Martyn ending up at Woolley Edge where the pace remained high all the way back. We were determined not to let Richard have it all all his own way and for once clung to his wheel all the way to Thornhill. (most of us did where were you Jack ???!!!!) Ride statistics were 70 miles, 16.5 mph average. Good fun, fast pace, great ride.

North Midlands Cycling Federation 25 miles Time Trial.
An original field of 65 entrants was reduced to 36 starters due to extreme weather conditions.
The wind touched 28mph and wind chill - 2C but that didn’t deter the hardy souls who braved the conditions in search of a PW (personal worst).
Once out on the road all feelings of cold were soon forgotten, as keeping control of the bike became a definate priority. There were severe cross winds where cycling speeds varied between 20 and 30mph, the fantastic tailwind section to Blaxton at >35 mph ( where I thought I was Dave zabriskie !) and the hellish last 5 miles plodding home.
But, despite the weather, it was great ! Well john and I thought so anyway.
Unfortunately Steve and Alastair DNS (or should that be LMF).
John Callaghan’s first solo 25 was 1.10.54, John lancaster 1.05.39, Paul Brierley 1.05.08, and Andy Callaghan 1.03.22.

Final Call for Alps Trip

Still looking for someone who wants to join me on my trip to the Alps, leaving Thursday afternoon 18th, returning on Monday, June 22nd late evening. Cost would be around £150 excluding food. Plan to do Alpe d’Huez, Galibier, Lauteret, Telegraphe, Croix St Fer, Les Deux Alpes, Izoard. I need to know before April 6th, otherwise might need to cancel.

Congrats to Alastair who rode TWO pbs in a weekend. After yesterdays 23.30 on Levens, he recorded a 23.13 on the V718 today in horrendous conditions with people assessing that it rode around a whole minute slower than normal.
Hats off to a great weekend of testing by Al, even though he is still tall, lanky and ugly

Club Run Report 22/03/2009 - Present were (????????) Alex Millman, Doug Tomlinson, Jack De Bokx, Robert Bradby, Martyn Bolt, Martin Lucas, Craig Johnson, Craig Newton, Harry Dixon and Dave Sugden. There is a bit of confusion as to who was out today as the start was very disjointed. We believe Harry and Dave agreed to meet at the Fountain with Martin ??? Then it appears there were a,b and c runs today with people going various ways. Can I suggest whilst it is a good idea to have various paced runs it would be nice if everyone met at the same place and informed others rather than just doing their own thing. So our group ! which included Al, Doug, Jack and Brad set off out to Hebden Bridge and over Widdup Moor with a horrendous head wind all the way, enough to make us almost turn back ! However we persevered and got to Wycoller in very good time considering the conditions where we stopped for lunch. On leaving the cafe we passed the Martyn (ginger) group and headed on over The Herders to Oxenhope where we were gifted with the long hoped for tail wind which gave us a grateful push home. Ride statistics were 58 miles, average 14.4 mph average. If you were out and you’re not mentioned please can you comment so I can award points accordingly - and please, please please can we all meet in one place at the start to make life a lot easier cheers.
Club Run Wycoller 22 march

loads of riders left the library in various directions, in fact some didn’t even go to the library.
It was windy going over Denholme and Cowling, we stopped for a coffe at Rossi’s to find only one cyclist had been there before, so where Dave, harry etc got to no one knows.
We saw some people in similar jerseys going the opposite way when we got to Wycoller so we politely waved.
Craig J yo-yo’d off the back over widdup, after taking a wrong turning and going towards Burnley!
We were stoped on the steep climb while a helicopter went over!
A great ride back then with a tail wind and after dave rhodes and myself had done all the work pulling Craig home he grinned and shot away just after Elland but blew up and missed out on the Kirklees sign at Cooper Bridge
Scores on the doors, 107.79 kms 23.2 kph avg maxxed out at 60 kph
did anyone tape milan san remo?
Windswept Levens.

On Saturady, 4 Thorpers rode the infamous Levens L1015 course, which is regarded as being the fastest 10 in the country, Wiggins did a 17.58 here 2 years ago!!!!!
The weather lulled us into a false sense of security as we were in the lee of the wind at the HQ area but on the course there was an extremely stiff cross wind with john Lancaster saying he got a real sped wobble with his disk and tri-spoke combo. The ski-slope start was negated due to a block head wind, none of us got much over 35 on what is a 3% downhill section!
The times are extremely interesting;
1st Al Wareham- 23.30
2nd Steve McCall 23.32
3rd John Lancaster 23.41
4th Les Dawson 25.24
Les whacked a solid 2 and a half minutes off his PB so an exceptional ride and well done to Al for winning (although only by 2 seconds!!!!!! 
) and a great ride by John by getting in the mix for the overall and making for a promising season for the inter club battles!!!
The event winner was the World Junior Pursuit Champion Andy Tennant, who set off 2 minutes behind me a took me at 6 miles like a bloody train, I’ve never seen class on a bike like that before!!! This guy was like an exocet!! Would love to be overtaken by Wiggins for 5 minutes, that would be an experience. He ended the day with a 19.33, on a windy day!!!! Goodness knows what he would do on a float day, crikey.
Good luck to Al riding the other drag strip on the opposite side of the country, the V718, here’s hoping for less wind.
