CLUB RUNS

I would like to sort the next tree months club runs out this thursday evening at the club house. There as been lots of great suggestions placed on the blog. if anyone as any more ideas then please let me know or get down on thursday. Also i feel it would be nice to have a full calendar of thorpers events for the summer so if someone could help me with a full list of all the sportives and testers events that members have entered then that would be great too.. Hope to see lots of you Thursday.. Cheers Alex..

    Robbo - 26.4.9
    Richmond Sportive - 23.5.9
    Polka Dot 7.6.9
    White Rose Challenge 28.6.9
    Lynda’s Ride 9.8.9

  2. Alastair ''GPS'' Wareham says:

Are you not riding the TDF this year, Doug?

  3. FactoryPilot says:

He’s banned, some sort of misunderstanding about riding a ‘Dougatti’…….. Idiots. They were going to invite you Alastair, but Steve sent them a memo regards your ‘directional difficulties’, so they played it safe and invited Armstrong back, after all they only have three weeks to get round France. If you pro rata the time taken to get round Hartshead/10 mile TT with malfunctioning ‘GPS’, it was decided that the french economy simply couldn’t cope with such a long Tour……

  4. Alastair ''GPS'' Wareham says:

Lol. Quality, can’t respond to that Brad / Robert or whatever your name is this week!

  5. Doug says:

The 21 days in July are still free. Get me a Ducati and I’ll thrash them all; and I’ll ride “clean”, without a GPS

  6. Doug says:

Oh, and the Fred Whitton 10.05.09

  7. Steve McCall says:

Bloody hell, Fred Whitton is doing well to say he will be 100 on the 10th of May this year!!!! Could he give any advice to our learned friend KH on how to ride a bike with legs faster than the Large Hadron Collider?

I dunno…. I’m off to find a flat bit of road to go reasonably slow on :-(

  8. Steve McCall says:

Oh and another thing , what’s this about “challenge” “sportive” “ride” “teddy bear’s picnic” ?

    Race you lightweights.

    Tick…… tick……tick……tick….BOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!

  9. Doug says:

Race? In Britain? You mean sit in a bunch for 50 miles on a flat route, fail to stay away in a breakaway, get caught by a bunch, stay in a bunch for another 5 miles, moan because there happens to be a hill on the route (which is actually only a hump backed bridge), and then fail to sprint for the line because you didn’t realise what was going on? Hmmh, give that a miss, I think.

Or, sit in a rather peculiar position and ride on a flat road against “the clock” for 10 miles, which isn’t against other people, so it’s not really a race anyway. Not worth getting the bike out for that one.

Nah… if you REALLY want to race - go to the Continent. They do it properly. Otherwise you are just pretending, like the rest of us who do the Sportives. The only difference is, our rides have…….wait for it……HILLS! Proper ones, too. Do you remember those, McCall?

  10. Steve McCall says:

I remember Jimmy Hills, does that count…. “Tomlinson”?

  11. Steve McCall says:

    Alex,

Can you get hold of a year planner or somthing like that so we can put that up on the fabled notice board?

Either that or we just have print outs of the lists of different types of events.

Is there a free online “diary” that we can edit to keep up to date?

See you tonight, I’m not going to turbo so we can discuss this and get it sorted.

  12. Al and Sarah says:

That sounds great.. just the sort of thing i was thinking of.. Maybe Craig Newton could help us with whats possible on line????

  13. Steve McCall says:

Been playing on google calendar, got the code for Craig to embed into this blog and on the home page. It looks good and have set up a google e-mail account and calendar for the club which I’ve set up to be public worldwide so anyone can see what we are riding.

I’ve got passwords set up for us so we can edit the calendar and can limit this to certain people or all members or post it on here for all to see, whatever we see fit really.

E-mail address is ravensthorpecc@googlemail.com will tell the password tonight.

The link for the calendar is

    Embedding code is
