3-up, mash up!
Wow! Extremely hard day out at Beverley today for a reduced 25 mile (to 20 mile) 3 up team time trial. Set off with a howling tail wind and quickly descended into a shambles when I peeled off and immediately got distanced by Al’s surge, after a telling off by Andy (our Dad) we then kept the change-overs smooth as Andy’s bald patch
The pace was furious up to the turn near Driffield with the average nearly approaching 30 MPH. A Westerly turn then put us into a block head wind and we ground our way along what was becoming increasingly undulating terrain. At this point we boosted our morale by taking our 3 minutes team, the look on their faces was worth the entrance fee in itself!!!! :-)
The Southerly stretch was absolute murder with the wind blowing us into the side of the road and not affording the 2nd and 3rd wheel much respite. The hills were relentless but again we worked well powering over them.
After a spell with me (YES ME) on the front going up a hill, Alastair was distanced by 200 meters or so and shouting furiously!!!! (His chain had come off, not me dropping him
From there on in it was a massive push to try and regain the chunk of time lost and we all suffered like dogs burying ourselves for the Thorper cause
We posted a reasonable time of 49.22 and finished 9th of 16, 7 and 10 seconds behind the next 2 teams :-( and under 5 minutes off Dawson, Brown and Johnston from Sportcover
It just dawned on me that we had 7 miles tailwind and 13 head wind so not bad really, now for a curry and some beer….ALLEZ LE VERTS!!!!!!!!!!

Well done lads, Alistair didn’t get lost by the sound of it!

I should hope not with 2 guide dogs dragging around!

Well done Andy and Al.
Steve; rubbish mate, just rubbish - how can you hold those two stalwarts back like this, week after week? You should be ashamed of yourself!

Rubbish? Definitely not. Andy and Steve are different class at this distance. I was hanging on for dear life for the last 3 miles or so. They have both been fitted with those extra long life duracell batteries!!
Great ride by both of you. It was certainly a learning curve for me.

Cheers Al! Really enjoyed the pain we all inflicted on each other!!! There was a great team cameraderie on Saturday and it was a great ride by ALL 3 of us. There were times I was wishing you would take a mile off and had to find the extra effort just to keep in contact, cannot wait for next seasons TTTs.
