Cycling Weakly - Johnson withdraws from MBMR
08/03/2009 by Sir Q Ittus-Root.
In a surprise announcement today, Craig Johnson has withdrawn from the Martyn Bolt Memorial Ride (MBMR). Coach and organiser Bolt commented “Johnson has been doing some sterling work at the back for The Green Machine over the past few months. He can often be heard barking team orders such as, “Car Up”, “Mile off” and, of course, “Wait for me.” However, his sponsors have asked him to complete the Tour Du-bai which clashes with the MBMR”.
Apparently Johnson had been giving The Green Machine some tips on training diets and these had proved invaluable (to avoid). “We’ll just have to manage without him… and his entry fee” concluded Bolt.
Seriously lads, sorry I won’t be there to support the event
Cape Argus
08/03/2009 by jack the flying dutchman.
Just returned to my hotel for my flight back to the UK after an extreme South African Cape Argus. Winds upto 50 km/h are no fun! The first half to the south of the peninsula was fighting against the wind, some cyclists got blown of their bikes! The second half was supposed to be better but only half of the second half was wind in the back, once we headed back to Cape Town the wind started playing and hit us again full in the face. Normally the last 10km after Suikerbossie are rolling down to the finish but this time even with a descend you had to pedal hard to make any speed…..finish times were around 45-60 minutes over what the guys normally do. I did 4h18′ over the 110 km - not too bad with all that wind. I even found the energy to bike back to the hotel. Anyway - I wore the Thorpers outfit with pride in South Africa - hope to get some nice photo’s from the organization later this month.
Maybe something for a Sunday ride next year…..
Greetings, Jack
Club Run - Mirfield to Wigfield Farm 08/03/2009

Club Run Report 08/03/2009 - present were Alex Millman, Dave Sugden, Harry Dixon, Craig Johnson, Martyn Lucas, Mike Bastow, Craig Newton, Derrick Milner, Richard Creaser and two new Marks ! Good turn out for a very miserable day, all headed out towards Holmfirth where nearly half the bunch decided to head home. Martyn went off on his own up Hade Edge never to be seen again ! The remaining brave souls (Alex, Craig J, Richard, Dave and Harry) went up Sallywood and onto the tops heading south to eventually Wigfield Farm where the weather was blustery but not too bad. The heavens opened whilst we had lunch, normal prices today !!!!!!! We then headed back with showers until we hit Bretton where we took refuge in a bus shelter during a severe snow storm for a considerable amount of time until it abated slightly ! Then a soggy drag home, wish I’d stayed in bed !! Ride statistics were 51 miles, average 13.7 mph.
