Plan of action for newbie testers.
18/03/2009 by Steve McCall.
Now then, I’ve been thinking today about the new members who are showing an interest in starting time trialling. (Mike, Mike and Jack).
The fixtures around the early part of the season are looking geared around the faster courses which will be oversubscribed.
If the newbies then enter the Ravensthorpe organised open 10 (18th April) and the Calder Clarion club 10 on a Tuesday or Wednesday night they will then get a time to put on their form.
This will then enable them to then enter the slowest 120 riders on the suprfast course at Hull (the V718) which is on May 30th.From there they will easily beat their PB and get a good time to ensure their entrance to most courses around.
As for 25s I will have a search of the handbooks and see which events they are most likely to get in. Keith, have you got any suggestions on courses they may get a ride without a time?

Club Run - Mirfield to Cracoe 15/03/2009
15/03/2009 by Al and Sarah.
Club Run Report - 15/03/2009. Present were Alex Millman, Doug Tomlinson, Robert Bradby, Craig Johnson, Jack De Bockx, Richard Creaser, Craig Newton, Mike Bastow, Martyn Lucas and a new man in Saeco strip ! On a beautiful spring morning another fine turnout, we all headed off except for Martyn who had mechanical problems for Cracoe the long way for an early season test of our legs ! Heading out through Leeds, Poole and up the infamous Norwood Edge, across Menwith Hill, Greenhow and down into Appletreewick, up the final climb out of Burnsall to Cracoe - a total of 52 miles before dinner !! Where Al, Doug, Richard, Brad, Craig J and Jack had lunch, the rest having peeled off just before Poole. Harry and Dave S were spotted at the cafe too just before we all arrived and they had seen Derrick along the way too. After a well earned lunch of cyclists specials for most (beans on toast with 2 eggs !) we headed the most direct route home, where a steady 30 mph was maintained down the A650 drag strip to Keighley. I for one regretted using all that energy when on the climb out of Keighley ! Then a tough lonely slog over Queensbury to home. Glad to be home. Todays star rider goes to Craig Johnson for a great effort over some very tough climbs and strong headwinds who battled home alone after being dropped in true Ravensthorpe style just after the lunch stop. I asked them to wait honest ! Ride statistics were 87 miles, 15.1 mph average. (some peoples average will be considerably higher than mine !)

Time Trial Squad
13/03/2009 by AndyCal.
With the influx of new members and improvement of existing members the future for such a small club looks very exciting indeed.
This year should easily see Thorper teams doing cumulitive times of sub 69 mins for 10 miles and sub 1 hr 77 for 25. This is no mean feat for our numbers and we are raising the profile of our club. Anyone interested should have a go, see Steve, together we can be a good Yorkshire squad. Andycal
Trip to the Alps?
12/03/2009 by jack the flying dutchman.
I had scheduled a cycling trip in the Alps (very close to Alpe d’Huez) from 19 - 22 June with a friend. However, he pulled out (obviously with a lame excuse!) but I’d like to go anyway - which means that I’m looking for someone who’d like to spend three days cycling in the Alps during that weekend. The cost would be around £120 for the weekend (2 person room - and no, I’m not snoring!) and share the fuel cost. I’ve done this a couple of times before and it’s always great fun to climb the Alpe d’Huez, Galibier, Telegraphe and feel like a TdF cyclist.
Let me know and we can discuss details.

Cycling Weakly - Johnson withdraws from MBMR
08/03/2009 by Sir Q Ittus-Root.
In a surprise announcement today, Craig Johnson has withdrawn from the Martyn Bolt Memorial Ride (MBMR). Coach and organiser Bolt commented “Johnson has been doing some sterling work at the back for The Green Machine over the past few months. He can often be heard barking team orders such as, “Car Up”, “Mile off” and, of course, “Wait for me.” However, his sponsors have asked him to complete the Tour Du-bai which clashes with the MBMR”.
Apparently Johnson had been giving The Green Machine some tips on training diets and these had proved invaluable (to avoid). “We’ll just have to manage without him… and his entry fee” concluded Bolt.
Seriously lads, sorry I won’t be there to support the event
