Club run report 5/4/09 Present were Alex Millman, Robert Bradby, Philip Rounding, Philip Johnson, Craig Newton, Martin Lucas, Martyn Bolt, Derrick Milner, Daved Sugden, Douglas Tomlingson, Alastair wareham, Mike the ref and Jack De Bokx. All except Derrick met at the designated meeting spot yippee !!! Then all set off in a large pack towards Huddersfield on a lovely sunny morning (so lovely in fact Craig was the first to show off his freshly shaven legs for the year !) All stayed together along Manchester Road, til the usual all hell breaks loose at Stannage ! Doug put his KH training tips to good use chasing Alastair with his high cadence technique whilst the rest of us paced ourselves considering the gruelling ascents ahead. Doug and Alastair got so far ahead they dined at a different cafe in Glossop to the rest of us either by choice or accident ! After lunch, the team was down to Alex, Martyn, Brad, Jack and Doug as the rest had other commitments and were sensible enough to take a different route ! We then commenced the gruelling ascent of Snake Pass where normal service resumed with Doug chasing Jack but to no avail as Jack got away never to be seen again ! Half way up Dougati ran out of steam and was pulled back in by the steady eddie’s and spat out the back ! The fun descent was followed by a service stop for the Dougati (puncture).  Then down to Ladybower resevoir and up to the start of the Strines, where the now very poorly Dougati was running on one energy gel fuelled cylinder. We then commenced the slow and painful ascents of the three strines made more bearable by the Dougati’s back firing expletives on every turn of the pedal as he puffed and panted his way up the climbs. This pain was eventually over and the Dougati was gently escorted back to Huddersfield and home where hopefully he’s been booked in for a full service ready to fight again next Sunday. Great ride and early test of form. Ride statistics were 90 miles, average 14 mph.
