Club Run - Mirfield to Kettlewell 12/04/09

Club Run Report 12/04/09 - present were Alex Millman, Doug Tomlinson, Phil Johnson, Martyn Bolt, Martin Lucas, Craig Newton, Craig Johnson, Phil Rounding, Harry Dixon, Derrick Milner, Paul Brierley, Robert Bradby, Dave Sugden, Mike the Ref and Rod the trainee.

Another lovely spring morning, disappointingly with riders setting off from all different directions rather than our club meeting point.

Alex, Doug, Craig N, Mike and Paul set off from the library having learnt that others had already set off from The Fountain, on the back foot we decided to make progress by taking the flatter route into Bradford and along the A650 into Keighley.

Where we eventually all met up for coffee at Rossi’s cafe. We then split into two groups with those going to Hambleton cafe I believe and those of us carrying on the designated club run to Kettlewell. Alex, Doug, Martyn, Rod, Paul, Craig J and Phil J set off for Kettlwell, a fast pace, improving weather and stunning scenery.

We dined al fresco at Kettlwell cafe ! On the return it was decided to go on the fast main road route as El Capitano needed to get home due to little Al commitments (its not here yet !!!!) We said to Paul to get the hammer down and boy did he ! It was like chasing a motorbike all the way home - very impressive, he stayed on the front 90% of the time with the others taking brief turns on the front but never sustaining his pace.

Made it back in just over two hours, Martyn hung back to look after his trainee with Craig J. Another great ride, lovely weather and star performance from Paul Brierley. Ride statistics were 88 miles, average 17.2 mph (fastest of the season so far).

Happy Easter to everyone - Richard are you a dad yet ???!!!!!!

Mr McCall - before you haul me into your office - have tried to put paragraphs in but when I submit it it comes out like this - maybe its because we have a mac computer ??????

  2. Sir Q Ittus-Root says:

Anybody seen Martyn and Rod? They evaporated, Dr Who style, in Keighley. Last time I buy them lunch!

  3. jack the flying dutchman says:

Were you hit by any eggs underway? Seen any bunnies?

  4. Martyn says:

A good run, good weather and good company.

Craig took the by pass from keighley whereas Rod and i stook to the quieter roads.

We were back by about 3.30 having just dropped below 25kph average, still 15.47 mph avg wasn’t bad, last time we averaged 20.8 kph or 12.9 mph for the day.

Rod’s getting there but can he make it in 104 days?

I think there were many start points, I set off from the Fountain with Rod and Craig J, so Rod didn’t get dropped on the first climb, Phil R , Suggy and maybe harry set off from Roberttown, derrick set off from home, Brad was late! and martin was Martin

We saw martin, briefly, outside keighley when we were stopped after rod and paul had been brought down by someone rushing to get into church. He went straight past as we were at the side of the road making sure everyone was Ok, thanks Martin!

Thanks for telling me about the route change, t*sser! Don’t know why I bother turning out on a Sunday, second time I’ve headed back solo from that neck of the woods.

  7. Martyn says:

That’s what happens when you charge off the front and don’t look back!
