5 July - and TdF game?
All,
I haven’t had too many reactions on my proposal to have the club BBQ at my house on July 5th - (only from Doug, Alex and Phil) - can all of you please reply. Like to know before end of next week.
Another issue, Steve and I have been doing our own little competition during the Spring Classics and thought it might be a cool idea to have a TdF game - i.e. who will win stages, who will wear the yellow jersey etc. It’s easy to set up….maybe we can make it more fun by doing some betting?

Armstrong to win - a fiver

Ha. Not a chance - Contador to wipe the floor with everyone.
Evans to finish second again.
Sastre to finish third.
Armstrong to win up Mont Ventoux and then get busted for cheating.

I’ll only play if I can win this time.

Alastair - youth really is no substitute for wisdom acquired over many years of quiet reflection. You are speaking ill of a living legend who transcends our sport. Contador isn’t worthy enough to tie his shoelaces. Contador wriggled out of Operation Puerto - if anybody is likely to get busted, it is him. Still, I suppose he can always get another job as a waiter - “Camerero, el proyecto de ley, por favor”!!
Oh, and I’ll give you odds, if you’re a betting man.

Doug - I’ll take you up on your offer. I’m supremely confident Lance will not win the tour. He may win a stage but he’s certainly not the time trialist he used to be. Three years out of the competitive cycling mixed with drinking copious amounts of beer and consuming large quantities of Tex Mex do not constitute a TDF winner for me.
However, I suspect Lance is a pretty shrewd character and he may have been calling everyones bluff with his ‘average’ performances at the Giro, amongst other events - so, bearing that in mind, it will be difficult to propose a reasonable set of odds given his past performances at the Tour and his mind games.
Let me hear your proposals and I’ll give it some consideration.
P.S - Thanks for the kind words that you posted on my Facebook gallery yesterday.

I agree with al, Lance will finish top 10 at best at the tour, hes just not good enough anymore at either time trialing or climbing to win it.
I think the top 5 will be.
1.Contador (best climber, suprisingly good time trialist too!)
2.Evans (eternal bridesmaid)
3.Menchov (Strong all round but maybe not strong enough to beat the above riders)
4.Sastre (Great climber, decent time trialist but maybe a bit past it)
5.Andy Schleck (amazing climber, will lose too much time in the time trial)

John you nailed it mate, exactly what I’d have gone for.

OK - let’s do this proper.
If you can all submit your team to me, i.e. 9 riders - I will set up a scoring system (points per stage, nrs 1 to 5 of each stage get 10 - 8 - 6 - 4 and 2 points and an additional 2 points per yellow jersey per day) and double points for the final classification.
So my team will be:
Alberto Contador
Cadel Evans
Oscar Feire
Mark Cavendish
Andy Schleck
Carlos Sastre
Robert Gesink
Roman Kreuziger
Sylvain Chavanel

Doug, were those the cyclists we saw in black this weekend on the Galibier, I thought they were going rather fast…..

Faster than me, that’s for sure.
