insurance

Dear fellow thorpers,  can someone point me in the right direction, i”m  wanting to insure my bikes against theft, other than banging it the house deal, does anyone have any tips on which to look at and those not to.

5 July - and TdF game?

All,

I haven’t had too many reactions on my proposal to have the club BBQ at my house on July 5th - (only from Doug, Alex and Phil) - can all of you please reply. Like to know before end of next week.

Another issue, Steve and I have been doing our own little competition during the Spring Classics and thought it might be a cool idea to have a TdF game - i.e. who will win stages, who will wear the yellow jersey etc. It’s easy to set up….maybe we can make it more fun by doing some betting?

City RC Hull 10 mile TT results.

Another ding dong battle with the seasons PBs.

Steve 21.34

Les 23.31

We both PBd on what was a decptively easy night, much easier than what it looked. The trees weren’t half getting battered by the wind at the HQ, on the course we hardly felt anything till we popped above the DC at the turn then felt the force of the wind. A storming return with only few sections below 30 MPH :-)

Hutch rode an 18.11 and was just outside Wggins comp record 17.58. by eck thats how to ride a bike!

Castle hall to Whitehall

Anyone fancy a ride to london?

I suggested to  a residents action group they might want to raise their profile by cycling to Whitehall,  they liked the idea and it has now been expanded to try and included more people

Originally i was going to do it in one day!

The idea is now that we set off on the saturday of Aug bank holiday, ride part way,( there is a Ravensthorpe in Northants , good one for Thorpers!) complete the ride Sunday and stay overnight in london with families.

2 days roughly 100 miles per day with support vehicles etc, anyone fancy it.

They have spoken to Dave Sowerby already and he is sounding out his team mates.

Gt Yorkshire Bike Ride

A good turn out from the Thorpers for this pleasant, well run and not too testing ride.

Brad n Ange, Tony, Rich C, Martyn and Rod all left Wetherby after aerobics with the nice lady.

Well signed and marshalled course with feeders every 10 miles and a main stop half way

The ride has 2 major climbs, lots of rolling but plenty of room to stretch your legs before a rousing finish on the cliff  at Filey.

Rich went to Brid, Ange and Tony got the bus, Brad, Rod and Martyn rode back to Wetherby.  It is a different ride in reverse, as the climbs are all long and steady with short fast descents.

We stopped seeing outbound riders about Malton, they were in for a long day in the saddle.

Fruit smoothies for energy at Terrington cafe ( not open Sunday!), then back to Wetherby after a good  ride in fine company and plenty of miles in the legs.

I heard Rod got 100kms in today, which is great after tackling Standedge,Snake and Strines on Friday, chappeau the little sausage!

club Run - Mirfield to Settle???? 14/06/09

a lovely sunny morning for the club run, nice change from the rain of last week. Present were Alex Millman, Doug Tomlinson, Phil Johnson, Craig Johnson, Jack De Bokx, Danny Webb, Morris Lagood, and Derick Millner. Settle seemed out of the question so we headed out to Rossi’s cafe to make a decision there.Sat outside having a brew (a rare thing in this country) the decision was made to go over the cringles to Droughton over Bolton Bridge and up the climb of Langbar and then onto Otley cafe for dinner. After a great first half of the ride my knee pain came back to strike again and cause me hell all the way home. Much thanks to Doug for his help in pushing me on the climbs to ease my pain.cheers mate.Ride distance 65 miles at 15.7mph average

Club 10 championship results.

Yo dudes,

The 2009 Club 10 championships were held up at Brotherton on the tough V910 course taking in numerous roundabouts, climbs, cross winds and the odd stray car or 2!

The results were as follows;

1st with an excellent 23.38 was Alastair.

Andy - 23.44

Steve - 24.11

John Lancy - 24.36

Jim - 24.45

Toby - 25.35

Les - 26.19

Well done to all riders for a great effort in what were decptively hard conditions but top top marks go to Al with a great ride, beating Andy is testament in itself. 2 great rides from 2 top testers, it was a pleasure to get my ass kicked by you for once ;-) I would have liked to have seen the splits on eurosport and the drama that would have given us.

This was nearly matched with the great support of Keith and Martin just before the turn !!!!!! I for one found it fantastic to see you out there, thanks lads! (Even though I was struggling at the time). The split times were very interesting, very reassuring that I was as sh1t£ going out as coming back :-) !!!!

Congratulations to Alastair again on a very momentous week for him, an engagement and the club 10 Champ, allez and hup hup indeed, couldn’t happen to a better chap.

5th July fun day in Crossley Lane?

In case anyone overlooked it, but I actually volunteered to host the fun day on July 5th (as Steve had to be excused). Let me know if you  are interested, obviously I would expect all to take food/drinks/BBQ’s - we have enough to do for the kids as well. Actually Monica and I had our 25th anniversary this year, so this is a nice opportunity.

Please let me know if you’re interested so we know how many are coming.

Team Swift 10 series (Event 3. V718)

The 3rd event of the series was completed in dry conditions with a steady breeze. It must have been the only area that missed out on heavy rain.

Unfortunately Steve McCall could’nt make the event but Alastair and Andy flew the Thorper flag, both recording PB’s.

Al recorded a 21.44 and Andy 21.46 !

Saturdays Championship should be a ding dong battle………………bring it on !

Good luck to all riders lets do the club proud.
