sunday report

On bright and sunny morning, Martin b, P johnson, jack and Morris set of for Grassington.   apoligies from Al who rang in with an upset gut, and another who came out with a unicycle, thought better of it and went back to cas vegas.     Jack left to go around oxenhope and back home over crag vale, leaving us to meet up with Martin lucas and another thorper who i”ve only met once[is it neil] at Rossis.   the route was then shortened, where we pressed onto cracoe, turning off for Bursal.  At this point my mavic front hub just about split in two, spokes were removed and caliper to get me home. Many thanks to Martin and Morris.   For the record, beans on toast with a egg!

Yorkshire 10 Mile Time Trial Championship

Three thorpers flew the green and white flag at today’s Yorkshire 10 mile TT Championships on the V212 course over at Boroughbridge/Walshford.

The course can only be described as ‘lumpy’ and the first leg was into a block headwind thus allowing for a flying return. It was extremely difficult riding into the block headwind -  surely we are due a float day soon?!. The continuous undulating gradient made it very difficult to get into a decent rhythm, however, some excellent times were posted.

The times were as follows:-

Alastair - 23:07

John Callaghan - 24:21

Jim Kirrane - 25:48

John finished 4th in his highly competitive ‘Espoir’ category. This category was subsequently won by Phil Graves in 20:02. Phil also won the overall event beating the likes of Wayne Randle and Carl Saint to the title.

Alastair and Jim finished 19th and 40th respectively in the Seniors category.

This was an excellent event and I would recommend that anyone enters it next year.

As the one and only Steve McCall would say - Keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep testing!!

Rare Sighting

If you watching the tour on saturday stage 8 it might be possible to have a rare sighting of El Presidento  He will be watching on the Col D”Agnes about 25 kms from finish he is staying at a campsite at Oust. He says he will give us a wave.   JEKYL

club clothing

Off on a little jaunt soon and it would be good to wear the colours

Team Thorpers 2009 strike again!

It’s gone again!!!!!

The team 10 record has been smashed again tonight over on the 718, Andy Al and myself took 49 seconds off our own team record posting times;

Andy 21.52

Al 21.33

Steve 21.29

It was a tough-ish night with an unfavorable north westerly wind (head wind for the longer return leg) but serious determination back into the wind ground out some great times! To do it again in nowhere near perfect conditions was a great testament to the lads strength. Just imagine a float night that we’ve had over the previous weeks, wowee, they’re gonna need some new tarmac when the Thorpers rip it up man :-)

The secret to my modest improvement.

This is how I managed to squeeze a 54 out this year.
