Alastair and I went on over Holmes Moss with a steady pace and then our ways parted, I went on via Elmley heading towards home (with a bit of a D-tour), did 70 miles with an average of 25.7 km/h.
Nice weather for a bike ride.

I saw two bits of gravel on the Strines - hardly the stuff that accidents are made of. The ride over Snake was fabulous - and so was the Strines. First class route thereafter, over Gilbert Hill and back via Emley. Lots of climbing - and Alex and I were truly amazed to find that Martin L had followed us. Those of you who went home the short way should hang your heads in shame!!

Except Phil Rounding - he had a “mechanical”

So you did 10 miles more………good climbing practice Doug!

I struggled up Moss with my chain constantly slipping out of gear. The loud ‘crunching’ sound was rather off-putting for both Jack and I. Quite pleased I didn’t go over Strines when my gearing was so bad.
Sounds like I missed a good ride though.

Crusher strikes again. Before the next ride I am going to fix those gears for you, Alastair.

I had a good go yesterday, Doug. Stuck it on the turbo after various time spent tweaking and all seems to be OK (for now).

Put it on the smallest cog at the back. Then shift back to the middle cog as normal. If the indexing is out, there will be a rattle at the back. Adjust the cable tension whilst in the middle cog until the rattle goes. Each and every gear will then be ok as you shift up and down.

hang my head in shame? the only reason we went the short way home is down to the strines covered in gravel! couldn”t work it out when martin went over ,hows that work then?

as i already had nearly 1,000 miles in this week i opted for the easy ride home

There was NO gravel - absolutely none! Don’t know what he was on about.
Martyn - you are forgiven. 1,000 miles alone is a long way.
Phil - I have to take my hat off to you for the breakfast you ate. But it was wasted - it would have got you over the Strines, easy; gravel or no gravel.

I agree, Phil. Why try and put eveyone off cycling over Strines by telling everyone how bad the surface is and then they go and cycle over it themself!! Very odd behaviour indeed.
