29/09/2009 by Alastair Wareham.
Just a quick reminder of the date of the above event; Saturday 24 October 2009.
Andy & John Cal have paid, as has Steve.
Phil Johnson and John Lancaster; are you guys definitely still attending? If so, there is no rush for payment but we will need to organise the day as a whole soon.
I understand that a few Q/F and S/F events will take place in the afternoon and a few Finals in the evening. The afternoon session kicks off at 14:00 and the evening session at 19:00.

potential dates for Alps trip next year
29/09/2009 by jack the flying dutchman.
So far Andy, Alastair, Doug, Brad and myself are interested.
I would suggest to go to one of the cycling hotels near to Bourg d’Oissan - we can stay in the same place Doug and I were last year (www.chaletbeyond.com) It’s quite good, decent food and drink (breakfast and dinner included in the price - which is around Euro 45 a night). If we leave on Wednesday evening, have a cheap stay near Folkestone and cross on Thursday morning early, we will be in time to do an hour or two to get used to the climbing on Thursday afternoon - we can do Friday, Saturday and Sunday riding and come back on Monday.
I am looking at 10-14 June, 17-21 June or 24 - 28 June.
Estimated total cost per person (including stay near Folkestone - and fuel and toll cost) would be £300. This excludes the channel crossing but I can get these via Tesco vouchers at a very low cost.
Let me know what the preferences would be or if someone else likes to join.
Martin in accident
28/09/2009 by Martyn.
I have had an email from Geoff our new member.
There was only him and martin out on the club run Sunday.
Unfortunately, Martin was involved in an accident when a car turned abruptly in front of him.
He was unconscious for a few minutes, and taken by ambulance to Pinderfields hospital.
He was still there as of 11.30 Monday in the acute observation ward, although he is described as being comfortable.
I am sure we all wish him well and I am sure geoff will keep us updated with progress

a sobering thought
27/09/2009 by phil johnson.
Having been on a all day bender saturday and still in the grip of joshua tetley sunday morning,[hungover] i set off 11 ish in the plan to go over and ride out to barnoldswick. Over the wycoller , where i teamed up with a young rider called chris from keithly, we took the back roads to barnoldswick looking for a cafe i knew, although the town has 6 cafes, all are shut on a sunday! with the possability of not getting a f.e.b. i soon sobered up. What it does have is a little coffee shop that does a nice best with a mean brew which i can recommened for a club run. Has the town been used before as a destination? phil
Ride report-Arthur Metcalfe memorial
27/09/2009 by Martyn.
A cool breezy day was almost perfect for the latest running of this popular charity ride, from Easingwold, N Yorks.
A swift one hour drive from home and i was there in plenty of time, a chance to chat to riders I have seen before and get ready before the 0930 start,as about 200 itchy riders lined up.
As soon as the route left easingwold high street riders from Yorks Road Club, Dinningtton Rc and other clubs well represented lifted the pace and despite taking in Terrington Bank and climbs around castle Howard we covered 21 miles in the first hour. Ridng in the front group of about 30 riders I was glad i had left the saddle bag and kitchen sink at home!
The was the flavour of things as the ride was fairly flat for the next hour and we flew past Flamigo Land and out towards Ampleforth.
Some roads were narrow and with gravel on teh bends, but good shouts from those at the front meant a safe ride. Although i did come close to riding on the grass verge whilst trying to catch up to the group on one descent!
There is some lovely scenery out there, (so i am told as i was watching wheels, and chewing my stem quite a lot) and the climbs around Hovingham were taken with the thought that it was better to suffer and shove the HRM into 90%+ than lose the group and have to ride alone
The inevitable happened after 53 miles and 2 hrs 40 in the saddle, the climb to Ampleforth just took too much and the group pulled away, as fatigue set in I eased back stoked the engine with nutragrain and hoped for a second wind
I didn’t have to wait long as at 59 miles i hooked up with a rider from Scarborough who had shipped his chain and got dropped and we rode together to finish the 70 mile route in 3hrs35 mins,
It isn’t compulsory to try andkeep up with the front group and there are cafes en route if anyone fancies an easier day
How about a few Thorpers next year?
This Sunday

I am going to do the Arthur Metcalfe memorial ride this Sunday at easingwold if anyone fancies a ride in the north Yorkshire hills with usually 200 riders rather than the stroll to Crockey Hill

Dalby day
23/09/2009 by Martyn.
Hi
A few members have said they fancy a bash at mountain biking.
Through work i have a stock of new Giant Talon MTBs in Dalby forest, which subject to the Forest not being out of action ( they have a car rally this weekend) I can make available as a swap for a club run.
The Forest offers a variety of trails from flat forest roads, onto the Green, Blue, red and black trails in ascending order of difficulty. It will also host a UCI world cup event next year.
It could be a great day for families ( smallest frame size 15″), and for non cycling persons, a walk in the forest, mooch around the visitor centre or nearby children’s play ground or eat at the Tree Tops Restaurant/cafe
Scarborough is near enough afterwards if you must
Possible dates are 11,18, 25 Oct and 22 Nov
any interest
Club Ride 20 September
23/09/2009 by jack the flying dutchman.
What a beautiful day it was, sunny with a little breeze and not too hot - wonderful cycling weather. A perfect day for some climbing with Mike the R, Mike B. (great to see him back again!), Alex, Doug, Martin, Craig, Phil R. and Phil J., and myself (Jack) setting off together with some blokes from Sowerby Bross, to conquer Holmes Moss - Snake Pass and the Strines. The weather on the top of Holmes Moss was absolutely fantastic (the best I ever had) and after a fast descent and a stop at a motorgang joint, we decided to have breakfast at our usual place in Glossop. It was full breakfasts, beans and toast as usual (except for me that is). Most of us went on to conquer Snake Pass and the Strines. It was a great sight seeing all climbing up the final ascent of Strines (20%). I went home via Shepley and Emley Tower - did nearly 2000 vertical meters and 130 km. This was for sure one of the better rides of the season.
