The Alps next year
22/09/2009 by jack the flying dutchman.
As I can not be at the AGM, you will hopefully discuss a potential club trip to the Alps next year. Some of you have done this before and Doug and I really enjoyed the rides this summer. Maybe we can combine with a visit to the TdF - although the route will be announced in October, it is most likely that it will first hit the Alps (as it did the Pyr. last year). The weekend and the following days of 10 July is my assumption. I don’t mind organizing it or helping to organize it. Another option obviously would be to do the Marmotte or to wait and see what the Etape Du Tour will be and join one of these.
Any ideas?

Testing PBs for all Thorpers
21/09/2009 by Steve McCall.
Hey up guys,
I’m getting together a collection of Thorpers all time PBs for ;
10 miles
25 miles
50 miles
100 miles
12 hours
24 hours
Can you send me you all time PBs to highlight the quality of Thorpers at their peak to stevemccall@talktalk.net
I think it will be great to see, for instance John Lancaster’s and Keith’s 25 & 50 times when they were at their peak, riding old skool AND still kicking the present testers butts, we have all the gear but no idea
It would also be good to recognise Tom and Derek’s times (track and road) as we all know about their prodigious history but the wider public may not.
I would also like to record the clubs all time records e.g. Dave’s individual times and the team records, yeah I know, I’m modest, as we did both team 10 &25 records this year :-)
I would like to get the records up there on the website for all to see and beat!
Steve.
P.S. so as to remain politically cycling correct we can also include peoples times for those things that are called sportives if you want, even cyclo cross but not mountain biking as we do not have a MBr section

The above link will open up the new amended club poster with mountain biking, web-site and blog address on. Some formatting may be out with individuals own settings on Powerpoint. Also some computers may not have the font settings that it is written in.
I have got 10 A3 and 10 A4 copies laminated which I will bring to the AGM but if anyone needs them before give me a shout and we can arrange something.
new cafe
20/09/2009 by Martyn.
I know how our lot like to count the pennies so the idea of a 10% discount may appeal, slightly shorter run than Boothferry for winters?

The web site is good for looking at potential food stops

Club Run - Mirfield to Hollingworth Lake or is it?
16/09/2009 by Al and Sarah.
Ok folks your opinions are needed. This weekends club run is to Hollingworth Lake but at Boothferry cafe(13th sept) there was lots of discussion on changing that to Glossop and then the Strines! one last chance to complete a great ride in last of the summer weather? Alternatively i have a couple of longer routes to Hollingworth Lake that will take in some unused very hard climbs and also offer the flat route for other members who dont wont to climb meaning we can then all meet at the lake for dinner… Alex
Sept 6th Club run to Boothferry
14/09/2009 by Martyn.
Making the most of the fair weather capn’ Alex , Craig & Phil Johnson, Mike the ref , Les Dawson, and martin & martyn were joined by new member Geoff from Hade Edge and we rolled out of Mirfield bound for Cas Vegas.
Alex had an idea, to try a new route to Shaw Cross, Bradford Road dewsbury, right opposite legends and up the new road, maybe slightly longer but less of a gradient?
Mike and Les peeled off near Stanley ( Is he a member?) to return home, the remainder tried the delights of Cas bus station cafe where we met Derek and where Doug fell out of bed and joined us
Through Fairburn to the old A1 where wide roads and little traffic allowed us to play at through and off for a while before turning to the quieter roads of Birkin to Carlton where the pace eased up and most riders took a turn at the front, whilst Martin pulled along at a high rate of knots
Just before rawcliffe Doug met the pu*****e fairy and we wasted time whilst he donned his surgical gloves and revived his machine, what a wuss!
The caff at Boothferry has yet again changed and is now smaller, and service slower, but on the plus side if you want to buy a helicopter or bin wagon you are in the right place
The return trip was through Rawcliffe, Sykehouse, and Askern before the more familiar route of Wentbridge, ( where Doug peeled off) Hemsworth Breton ( Martin turned) and Woolley edge
Alex was showing the strains of broken nights, stag nights and less than 14 days to his wedding when he faded on the last stretch
Just short of 100 miles and just under 17 mph if anyone is counting, Geoff was still banging away at the end which bodes well for him as a club rider and Craig J went to the front on the down hill stretch from Grange moor!
what about blogs from our mountain bikers, and rides on a weds and saturday?
Club 15 Championship
13/09/2009 by AndyCal.
The Club 15 took place this morning as part of the East Bradford 15 on the V221 Grafton - Cowthorpe course.
The undulating course was a race of two halves due to a 12 to 14 mph South wind. The outward leg was very fast and the return into a headwind.
The winner with a fine performance was Al with 36.24. Runner up was Andy in 36.52, followed by Steve 38.58, and Jack 39.17.
Al is in fine form as the season draws to a close and there are still one or two races left to have a crack at.
Chappeau, allez les verts.
