AGM

here’s what you missed at the AGM, ( from Le Sec as blog doesn’t tell you who is writing!)

20 members were at the start of the meeting, but 3 more drifted in which is about 50% of our total, not a bad turn out.  membership up from last year so we must be doing something right

we’d had 5 new members during the year, and Jonathan pulled down the average age considerably!

We’ve got 6 members with BCF licences, for some strange reason!

We have stock left on club clothing, perhaps Andy can post a list or liaise with Craig about a page on the web site?

Steve gace  us a full report on racing, and again perhaps rather than post in the blog this year we might have a page where Steve can archive all those really interessting snippets  about men in black  riding on secret courses in the dead of night?

Racing sec report

The club runs had been popular as during the year 30 members had taken part, pity they weren’t all out at the same time.

We’d like to try and promote the club more and our ‘older’ members were asked to start at the library and not arrange their own alternatives which lowered the numbers

The runs comp result was fry up Phil 34 points, le Sec 30 and full brekkie craig 29 points

no great surprises in the election of officers , but Richard Creaser is stepping ot help Steve on racing stuff as he fancies some cross riding this year ( open goal anyone?)

Alex is back by popular demand and lack of  interest from anyone else as runs captain, which means Wuilliam should be in line for best young member next year and sarah as most devoted wife!

See Steve for details of club TT events, our open 10 is again on 17th April, and we have resurrected the BAR comp with a 10 event comp whihc Steve and Richard will update as we progress

harry Dixon was clubman of the year with young Al wareham as best young rider

The club dinner is again at grange Moor with Steve ( give me the Trophy) McCall at the helm

6th dec is the club freewheel comp  and will be followed by another luch at the old colonial as the HCA dinner seems to have faded

GT Avelanche Expert MTB

dsc04399.JPG

After riding a couple of TT’s I’ve come the conclusion that I like this more than Mountain Biking - therefore I put my GT Avelanche Expert for sale. Equiped with SRAM X9 (triple), Deore Disk Brakes and Rock Shox Susp (front). Never been riden very seriously - less than 500 miles on solid ground - currently has Schwalbe City Slicks - but also two pairs of fatter tires (one pair never used). Will sell for £350.

UK Track Nationals - Arrangements

For those who haven’t spoken with Steve, we are meeting at 12 noon tomorrow at The Head of Steam pub by the railway station in Huddersfield. Trains to Manchester are very frequent so we can decide tomorrow what time we set off to the Velodrome.

See you tomorrow!

Change of club run 25th Oct

Next weeks club run has been changed to Wentworth so that we can incorporate the National Hill Climb Championship which is taking place at Pea Royd Lane, Stocksbridge. This should be a great event with up to 150 mad people trying to beat each other up a very steep hill. The event kicks off at 11am so we should have plenty of time to get there. Good practice for next year when we will all be watching Alistair win the event for the Thorpers..

Club Hill Climb 2009

Al retained his hill climb trophy with relative ease due to no other Thorpers having entered the HCA event held on the V999 course at Ripponden Bank.

Al couldn’t quite repeat his historics from last week and this time finished second overall recording 4.13.00 which was a 19 second improvement on last years time but 1 second too slow to win the Open event. Congratulations go to Andrew Metcalfe of Wetherby Wheelers who won the event recording 4.12.00.

Paul Brierley recorded 4.40.00 which was a 20 second improvement on last years time and fast enough to win the vets event. Great ride Paul.

Al won the HCA gold medal by beating Andrew Pearson of Huddersfield Star Wheelers by 1 second. Andrew has had an excellent hill climbing season but unfortunately he had to settle for silver with Stephen Robinson of Holme Valley Wheelers settling for bronze.

With the low number of overall entrants, this event is at risk of being discontinued next year so hopefully we will have a much better turnout this time next year.

Thanks to all the Thorpers who turned out to cheer Al on at the side of the road. Unfortunately he couldn’t grind out the victory this time around.

This now leaves the Freewheel trophy as the last trophy up for grabs this year. Let’s have a great turnout for this end of season event!!

YCF 10 2009

Just found this clip of Al starting the YCF 10 back in February so I’ve put it on you tube.

Club hill climb for “pussies”

Seen as most of us are pussies and/or not very organised at getting entries in as well as paying £7 for less than miles racing, do you think we could organise a club hill climb as part of a Sunday club run?

This could either be timed or even as part of the club run e.g. out of Marsden up to the county boundry sign or cragg Vale etc? this would ensure we have plenty of riders competing and boost club run numbers? I suppose we would have to vote on it at the AGM but thought I could raise it now for people to consider and reject before hand to save on my humiliation on the night :-)

This way we would at least make Al earn it every year!

Club Run - Burnley 11/10/09

On the club run this week were Phil “FEB” Johnson., El Presidenti, Cloggy (aka Jack) and Craig J. That’s Johnson, Johnson, Johnson & Johnson (employee) and Phil Rounding. Or, two Phils, two Johnsons, and a Jack ;-)

Anyways, deciding on a Southwood direction thru Halifax the further up the Toddy valley we got the wetter it got. The Dutch contingent turned off up that hill wot goes on for 5 miles (wasn’t that a short cut, Jack?). The three bedraggled remnants of the Thorpers, meanwhile, arrived at Hebden Bridge. Hopes for food and rest were dashed by an enthusiastic President leading from the front. At Todmorden an open cafe opposite the market proved too much of a temptation. At this point we decided to officially “bin it.” Nice weather for ducks.

With the wind behind we went towards Littleborough and taking a sneaky right avoided the traffic (and the rather tedious road) to emerge just before the last sign of civilisation on the Lancashire-Yorkshire border. The Ripponden-Brighouse route was short work, getting home at 1.30pm now dry but still with wet feet. Stats: 3:10:56 hours ride, 49.56m @ 15.6mph, max speed 39.4mph (… if only that truck hadn’t been in the way…), average cadence 72.23, star sign Cancer. Conclusion: Bit wet, but all glad we made the effort.
