overview of 2009 cycling season

Beautiful overview of the 2009 cycling season - it’s in Flemish (but some english in the interviews) - however it’s a great overview of the season, with the emphasis on the Belgian classics - gives a great impression.

Club dinner update.

I’ve been to the Grange for the info that I’ve been waiting all week for.

The dinner has gone up from £10 to £12 for club members and £12 to £14 for non-members, plus the room hire charge has gone up the annual £10 increase to £70, which is paid for from club funds.

I also enquired about wheelchair access for Joyce Sugden (Dave’s wife) and unfortunately they haven’t got access.

After racking our small McCall brains we thought about the Navigation with their newish function room that’s at ground level. I called in and sampled one of their 6 cask ales( V V V nice!) The landlord said he would be able to do a 3 course Sunday dinner for £12 inclusive of room hire, so it turns out cheaper, nearer and can accomadate wheelchairs. A no brainer I think, especially as Dave and Joyce can now come.

I’m getting some more details this week and will bring them to the club night then dispatch them to all members.

Club scuba dive report - 29/11/09

Three interpid sub-mariners met at the Library and waited and waited for any other foolish Thorpers to turn up (to no avail). Alastair, Martin and myself (vice, vice, vice, vice, vice, vice, vice, vice, vice, vice, vice, vice, vice, vice, vice, vice, vice, vice club cap’n McCall) made the decision to head to the usual Rossi’s in case anybody else were going to meet there. We abandoned the notion of Cracoe before we set off as Skipton had 10.8 mm of snow forecast!

Due to this I devised a very zig zaggy route to Keighley that took in some great quiet country roads and some savage climbs!! The route took us on what seemed like a scene from a Carry On film. We went up Wood Bottom, down on Cock Hill and imagine our suprise when we went along Nipple Avenue, oh how we laughed ;-)

The charge into Keighley was fantastic but made even more incredible by the adrenilin coursing through our veins when a car literally brushed Alastair. We pursued like Wiggo and Thomas and caught the fool just before Rossi’s, where the administration of some sound sage advice put across so eloquently by the two of us red faced panting fools!!

Tea and t-cakes were ordered and a good chat was had before the decision to head back and “retrace” our steps. At the mini roundabout Martin left us. Al and myself went down into Haworth and through to Stanbury reservoir before the fast decent into Oxenhope and climb up over Pecket Well moor.

The rain in Hebden Bridge really clattered down and kept with us all the way home, dashing our plans to do the Cragg and Barkisland climbs. Yeah, yeah, pussies I know :-)

The ride stats were wet wet and wet with a lot of cold cold cold covering 54 miles @14.2 MPH.

P.S. when I got in I immediately got in the bath to dry out :-)

Turbo training.

Is everyone up for turbo training on Thursday nights at the clubroom starting 1st Thursday in January, commencing 7.15. Don,t forget your towel.

BRCR 2010

Hi

Sadly Huddersfield university students aren’t able to help with the challenge ride for next year, which should be on Sunday 25th April.

Do any Thorpers want to volunteer in helping run  the ride please?

max 500 riders, , online entries are easily sorted, but it is the  things like route checking, registering riders on the day (Start  and finish) car parking, etc which i need to have support with.

the printing etc  should be OK again

The motorcyclists are doing marshaling ( so we need a liaison person with them)

Hopefully feeder stations Ok, but again that needs checking, liaising for final figures etc

and all the other usual stuff

anyone interested please feel free to contact me directly

Club Run - Mirfield to Askern 22/11/2009

A very windy morning greeted the 5 Thorpers Mike Bastow, Phil Johnson, Robert Bradby, Andrew Callaghan, Alex Millman and then later at the bus station cafe at Castleford we were joined by Martin Lucas, Derick Milner and hopefully a new member John Spindler. I had to be back for a family birthday party so i hope those of you that continued will fill the rest of us in on where you got to.I am away this weekend and will not make the club run, so could someone please stand in as club captain.. cheers Alex

Cycling, food and beer, what could be better?

Update for the annual downhill championship and club dinner arrangements.

I’ve booked the restaurant at The Old Colonial for approx 20 people from 1 PM on sunday the 6th December and the menu can be found here if you fancy a gander. http://www.theoldcolonial.co.uk/sunday_lunch.html

Please let me know if you fancy coming as it’s unfair to land on Tim’s doorstep as he has to arrange for the extra people and would put extra strain on their kitchen and staff if there was not enough notice. My number is 07758 240071.

I’ve also been in contact with The Grange retaurant for the annual club dinner on Sunday 7th February from 12 onwards, I will be recieving details in the next few days and will get menus and the pricing details out to you all as soon as I get them.

Lets try and get a good turn out for both events as it’s rare that all cyclists from all disciplines get together and celebrate being a Thorper. We need to keep this great and long established club going and it’s been a fanstastic recent few years seeing the upsurge in new membership and the continued support from the stalwarts who have been there through both good and bad times.

Allez Le Verts and chapeau to all who ride in green!

PLANNED CHANGES TO IMPSPORT DIRECT IN MARCH 2010

Dear Mr  Callaghan  ,

Impsport is currently working on a re-branding project which will see the launch of a new catalogue and web-site in March 2010. At this time Impsport will be introducing a revised on-line price list which fully reflects the costs associated with the supply of a single, or a small quantity of customised items through the Impsport Direct Retail Shop. Flowing on from this Impsport will be introducing a quantity based discounted price list which will reward Customers who place bulk orders.

Until the end of February 2010 Impsport is holding its current retail price list giving you an extra incentive to get your 2010 orders in early. This includes holding the current on-line prices when the VAT rate reverts back to 17.5% in January.

Impsport would also like to make you and your members aware of a change we are making to the return of custom made club kit. From 1st December 2009 Impsport will not be providing an exchange or refund service for customised club kit which has been ordered in the wrong size. Please find attached a size chart which will help your members when ordering their customised kit on-line and we would appreciate if you could pass this information on to them.

To run along side these changes Impsport is going to revise the numbers of products and styles which can be purchased by individual club members via the Impsport Direct on-line shop ordering process. Some of the less popular items will be removed from the on-line offer and will revert back to bulk ordering only. These changes will also help reduce manufacturing complexity and allow Impsport to maintain its current lead times at a time of unprecedented sales growth. Impsport will contact you early in the New Year to confirm which products will be available to your individual club members through your unique on-line shop.

Finally thank you for continuing to support Impsport during the global economic downturn. In the current turbulent economic times
UK production offers Impsport a significant advantage over continental imports. Our prices are in £
Sterling so there is no worry that a 30% shift in the value of the Pound to the Euro will increase your garment prices by 30% overnight. Additionally Impsport ensures that money you spend stays within the UK economy as everything is produced on site in the UK, protecting UK manufacturing jobs, so in our own way we are all doing our best to pull the
UK through the current recession.

Best wishes.

The Impsport Team.
