Club Run to Wycoller 8/11/2009
Doug, Jack, Bolty, Fry up Phil, Alastair Ware up the hill, Coco McCall and myself set off from the usual spot into Dewsbury and along Bradford Rd on towards Keighley. Bolty, Alastair and Jack out in front with the rest following on behind.
On the approch to Keighley, me Doug and co co made a dash down the bypass to try and beat the front bunch to the cafe which we did in great style and after several cups of tea and rounds of toast they eventually arrived.(phil had been badly so did not stop and went on to Wycoller) on leaving the cafe we paid our respects to our fallen heroes with 2 mins silence which was taking place.
Jack then set the pace on the run up to Crosshills and the climb over the moors into Lancashire, Co Co now melting in the heat of his builders jacket. We arrived at Wycoller to a warm welcome (NOT) and enjoyed the good food, arriving shortly after was Sarah, William and the mother in law.
The route back was over Widdup Moor but before the climb we made a brief stop at Trawden to check the cafe out there with the aim to change venues in the future (anywhere could provide better service than the shower at Wycoller). The climb over Widdup was hell with Jack and Alastair off ahead and the rest of us struggling along.
The highlight was Doug and Alastair getting the descent totally wrong much to Co Co’s amusement. Safely over, we arrived in Hebden Bridge and stopped soon after to fill bottles and then made the decision to go back via Cragg Vale, Co Co cracked at this idea and left for the valley route leaving me Doug and Alastair to make the final ascent. Arriving at the top 5 miles later, I for one had seen enough hills for the day and was glad to be going down hill and heading for home.
A great Club Run with great company. Excellent. Miles 77 Average 14.7. Don’t know what happened to Jack ???? see you all next week..

After the turn towards Hebden Bridge via Widdup I was on my own! Looked back and didn’t see anyone - so went on over the hills towards HB, then via Mytholmroyd to Sowerby Bridge and Elland back home. Did 111 km and 25km/h average. Would have loved to do my favorite Cragg Vale……next time.

That was a really good ride - very tiring after a couple of weeks off the bike; a proper rebaptism of fire.

Top top ride, thanks for Laurel and Hardy for entertaining me on the descent into Hardcastle Crag, I though you were gonna start moving a piano next it was that farceical.
Glad I missed the Cragg thou, hammered it home in time for 3 pints of IPA and a roast beef dinner, ding dang do!!

Just entered my miles into my log this morning and I’ve now done more miles in November than all of September and October, no wonder I was sluggish.
P.S. Alex, nice to see some paragraphs

Fantastic club run and great company. Haven’t laughed like that for a while.
Once again, may I offer my apologies to Steve Mac and Doug for consuming all of the red cabbage. I genuinly thought we got our own dish!

Due to having no red cabbage I had to eat Co-Co’s Twix. It all worked out in the end because he got a disgusting energy gel in return. Everybody happy, except Co-Co - perfect!
