Club Run - Mirfield to Otley via Withens moor and Langbar 15/11/2009
15/11/2009 by Al and Sarah.
Coco’s downfall Riders out today.. Doug, Steve, Alastair, Richard, Jack and Me. On a bright and showery morning we set off for Keighley on a new route via Withens moor. As soon as we hit the first major climb Richard and Alastair shot off ahead and missed the turning so we waited but they had gone so on we headed over Withens moor.
What wonderful countryside Yorkshire has and the views were fantastic, with some very tough climbs. Good progress was made and we made it to the cafe at Keighley after some mad descending (Doug) and met up with Richard and Alastair who had missed the fun and came the main road way.
After our breakfast stop we headed over the Cringles and across to Bolton Bridge, where we started the tough climb over Langbar which Alastair made light work of and the rest of us didnt ( co co popped ).
Otley arrived not too soon with many us suffering from the onslaught of climbs (even Jack ) where we dined at the very posh river side cafe. Joined soon after by the McCall and Millman Clans. Refreshed off we set again for home with the lovely Bradford to look forward to and that classic climb of Manchester Road (what joy)
This was one of the best club runs, great fun and company all the way. If you haven’t been out for a while stop messing about and get your bike out and join us, you dont know what your missing.Distance today 70 miles, average speed 15mph
Christmas Tour
12/11/2009 by Sir Q Ittus-Root.
Me and ‘Bodsie’ (ex-Thorper from years back) are going on a Christmas Tour up t’Dales. The Thorper Christmas Tours of years back were stuff of legend.
We’re stopping at The Punch Bowl at Low Row and coming back the next day. Much beer will be drunk. Many miles will be cycled. In the unlikely event that any of you skinny, licra-clad woosies are up for a winter tour, you are most welcome to join us.
Mudguards and paniers obligatory. Beards optional

Saturday 19th - Sunday 20th December. Start at Otley (to miss the Bradford traffic out).
Downhill Championships…. 06/12/2009
10/11/2009 by Al and Sarah.
The Ravensthorpe cycling clubs annual Downhill Championship will be taking place on Sunday 6th December. This is a great fun event to end the season, that all can come and enjoy, just turn up and for once you don’t have to pedal hard to compete ! (in fact you don’t pedal at all).. In the past, after the event the club has attended the H.C.A. ride out dinner which is sadly no more. So the idea is that we find another local venue and all gather for drinks and a bite to eat after the event.. Is there enough support to do this? Alex..
Club Run to Wycoller 8/11/2009
08/11/2009 by Al and Sarah.
Doug, Jack, Bolty, Fry up Phil, Alastair Ware up the hill, Coco McCall and myself set off from the usual spot into Dewsbury and along Bradford Rd on towards Keighley. Bolty, Alastair and Jack out in front with the rest following on behind.
On the approch to Keighley, me Doug and co co made a dash down the bypass to try and beat the front bunch to the cafe which we did in great style and after several cups of tea and rounds of toast they eventually arrived.(phil had been badly so did not stop and went on to Wycoller) on leaving the cafe we paid our respects to our fallen heroes with 2 mins silence which was taking place.
Jack then set the pace on the run up to Crosshills and the climb over the moors into Lancashire, Co Co now melting in the heat of his builders jacket. We arrived at Wycoller to a warm welcome (NOT) and enjoyed the good food, arriving shortly after was Sarah, William and the mother in law.
The route back was over Widdup Moor but before the climb we made a brief stop at Trawden to check the cafe out there with the aim to change venues in the future (anywhere could provide better service than the shower at Wycoller). The climb over Widdup was hell with Jack and Alastair off ahead and the rest of us struggling along.
The highlight was Doug and Alastair getting the descent totally wrong much to Co Co’s amusement. Safely over, we arrived in Hebden Bridge and stopped soon after to fill bottles and then made the decision to go back via Cragg Vale, Co Co cracked at this idea and left for the valley route leaving me Doug and Alastair to make the final ascent. Arriving at the top 5 miles later, I for one had seen enough hills for the day and was glad to be going down hill and heading for home.
A great Club Run with great company. Excellent. Miles 77 Average 14.7. Don’t know what happened to Jack ???? see you all next week..

Cycling Weekly - page 56 - 59

If you have Cycling Weekly, go to the article on page 56, it describes a ride with Graham Webb - this is where I grew up and spend the first 30 cycling years of my life. I spend many cycling kilometers in this area!

ALPS 2010 24TH TO 28TH JUNE
04/11/2009 by Doug.
This is the last call. I need one person to keep me company on the climbs whilst the others ride off into the distance on this trip. Is anybody interested? McCall, I would even consider you as a riding companion.
