club Run - Mirfield to Langsett 17/01/2010
19/01/2010 by Al and Sarah.
10 thorpers (11 including Jack!) Alex, Doug, Phil J, Steve, Alistair, Brad, Mike the ref, Richard, Andy and hopefully new member Ben made the start at Mirfield library on a comparatively mild day of late. The route today was a circular one including Marsden, Meltham, Holmfirth all joined together by tough climbs and finishing up at Langsett Cafe for dinner. Seemed easy when i planned it sat at home in front of the fire! The road conditions were terrible and resulted in 4 punctures(including Jack) and in Brad’s case a road side repair due to having no spare tubes that were not already punctured! Arriving at Holmfirth for the coffee stop I was already tired and frozen from all the supervising I had been doing! Mike had dropped off not feeling too good and headed for home, Brad stopped for coffee but then through the towel in and went home, and Phil soon followed them once we started the leg breaker of a climb out of Holmfirth suffering from cramp. Once over the climb we made good progress over the barren moors towards Langsett when Steve let his tyre down on purpose just because i was dropping him. Luckily for Steve he had 6 supervisors making sure he did the repair right. Would we ever make Langsett? Once we all agreed that Steve had done the job right we were off and at last arrived at Langsett cafe. Bikes parked, into the cafe we went to be confronted by a very rude woman who demanded we move our bikes from the back of the cafe which indeed we did and parked them outside the windmill cafe instead. Whilst I’m club captain I suggest no club run will be stopping at Langsett Cafe again, warm and friendly we need not rude and aggressive.The Windmill cafe provided there usual high standards and fed and watered us all..One hell of a day and now I’m sat in the warm again I bloody loved it and roll on next week. 54 miles and the average too low to mention! Star rider Ben (hope you join us next week) but well done all who completed the run..

YCF info & GHS ride
19/01/2010 by Steve McCall.
Hi fellow Thorpers,
Correspondance recieved from the Yorksire Cycling Federation.
“The annual GHS ride will take place on Sunday 18th April @ £1.50 per head or £2 on the line” As I’ve never done this I do not know where it starts from and at what time, anybody with insider knowledge would be appreciated to advise other members who are interested in riding. This is a Thorper BAR counting event so will be of interest to quite a few members (especially Brad who is the front runner).
“It is with regret that we [YCF] note the passing of Bill Fielding, who was an ex YCF committee member and long time helper at YCF events” - Our depest sympathies from all at Ravensthorpe to Bill’s family.
The results are in for the YCF short distance comp.
The overall winner was Joel Wainman with an amazing average of 29.867 over 10, 25 and 50 miles. Our club dinner guest of honour, Andy Jackson was 2nd with 29.408. Way way back from those beasts were;
Steve McCall in 18th with 26.979
Andy Callaghan in 29th with 26.097
John Lancaster in 39th with 25.325.
The YCF club dinner is held after the event on the V310 if anybody is interested at Scarthingwell golf club on Sunday 28th February.
That’s it for now.
Adios
Steve McCall.
