club Run - Mirfield to Uppermill 24/01/2010
11 riders Alex, Phil J, Jack, Geoff, John, Ben, Paul B, Richard and 3 guest riders, Becky from Sowerby Brothers, Mike and his Daughter Milly from Wakefield Tri club set off on a cloudy dark day for a trip over the pennines to Uppermill. The first 15 miles or so out to Rippenden were dry but the climb from there on over Rishworth Moor to J22 of the M62 was driving rain and fog. The group split up on the climb as always but the faster climbers waited under the motorway bridge and we all re grouped for the descent (which wasn’t one because of the head wind! ) to Denshaw and then on to Uppermill. Jack, Geoff and Paul decided not to stop and headed over Stanedge while the rest of us stopped at the cafe for a well earned brew and a bite to eat.All of us were wet through, cold and the worse for wear but loving it non the less..After much discussion the route back over the pennines was Greenfields to Holmfirth, a tough climb at nearly 3 miles long but just what we needed to warm us up after putting all our wet clothes on again at the cafe. Snow and fog welcomed us at the summit but things soon started to brighten up as we descended with the wind now behind us at great speed with the girls showing the lads how its done, well worth the effort of all that climbing. All back together at Holmfirth we made our steady way back to Mirfield via Huddersfield. The weather had tried its best to spoil things but most of us enjoyed the extra challenge. Thanks to Mike ,Becky and Milly it was great to have you along and hope to see you again soon, you will always be most welcome.52 miles and who cares what the average was we did it.. Hope to see you all next week.

Good route on Sunday, Good to see some new faces on the ride. It was a bit wild on the Greenfield climb. Alastair did you sleep in ?

I certainly did, dude!
I woke up at 8.35 and briefly considered consuming some breakfast, getting changed and cycling the 8 mile trip to Mirfield at break-neck speed. But I didn’t think it was possible so I went back to bed to allow my banging headache to subside.
Sounds like a good ride though - 11 out again, that’s fantastic. Long may it continue!!

I’d like to thank all the fast lads for looking after my niece Milly and her friend Becky, it should have been the responsability of me and her dad but we only caught up with them at the cafe and then at The Three Nun’s on the way back. I think fitness and stamina must have skipped a generation!!
Seeya next week Mr Millman.
