Club run Knaresborough 14/2/10

A lovely day dawned with many romantic lovebird Thorpers remaining in bed, smooth talking their loved ones instead of being romantic all year round and growing a pair of b4||$ and getting out for the Sunday run ;-)

There was a limited turn out of Rich C, Alex,Doug, John S, Martin, Craig and myself. Craig and Martin shot off as soon as they arrived for a steady run out whilst we chewed the fat for a while.

A great pace on a fresh sunny morning took us out to Tingley where we caught the 2 strays up and they immediately turned right instead of joining us through Rothwell, Garforth Aberford etc en route to Knaresborough. We thought the club captain was trying to tell us all something with his surreptitious attacks at the bottom of anything that remotely looked like a rise in gradient but we doggedly covered his pathetic attacks easily!

Capn Al took us on a lovely back road approach to Knaresborough whilst dodging the pedestrians that were upset we were riding in the road (sorry about following the highway code folks and making you move onto pavement!). We met up with Mrs Millman, Master Millman and Mrs Mother-in-law Millamn at a lovely Cafe on the side of the river (shame the HUGE pot of tea only had 1 tea bag though).

A terrible rolling terrain took it’s toll on the way to Otley where somewhere or other John left for home and Rich C disappeared into the ether up the road (unusual that, never seen that happen before.)

Stopped again at the Ritz in Otley where the deafest customers in the world congregate ( “JAM SPONGE, NUMBER 74, JAM SPONGE, ANYONE ORDERED JAM SPONGE!!!!!!!!!!”  ”Oh, it’s us sat here right at the side of you love”. We were suprised the waitress didn’t throw the sponge in their laps)

A grovel back through Bradford made all the worse with Doug puncturing just for a rest. Mind you he walked in circles for 10 minutes before settling on the ideal spot to change it, OCD sufferer if I’ve ever seen one.

Stats were 72.74 miles @15.75 MPH avg.

Shame Al’s race was cancelled we could have sucked his wheel all day instead of having to do a bit on the front for once!!!!
