19/02/2010 by Martyn.
I went to the old school house at Hebden near Grassington this week with the Gargrave mob, very nice friendly place, maybe worth a look some time?

Manchester road, gnashing of teeth
19/02/2010 by Martyn.
I went out to Gargrave yesterday, and had 3 visits by the puncture fairy.
2 were on Manchester road bradford, so I thought I’d warn Thorpers .
On the way down into Bradford I think it was due to a manhole which stretches across most of the lane, where there are small square sections whch are now hollow and the lid has dropped a bit. Trouble is I know it is at the bottom but not exactly where so can’t report it.
If anyone is going ointo Bradford centre keep an eye out, and maybe report it on

On the way back I had another blow out on the traffic lights near an undertakers, I think this was because they are resurfacing the road and there are loads of sharp bits of tarmac
The final straw was coming into Scholes as it started raining
Gatorskin tyres? more like hamster skins..

Mike was transfered to Sheffield for an operation to have 2 steel plates inserted into his leg. Not sure when he was having op, but I think he should have had it by now.
Holly McCall’s sponsored bike ride
16/02/2010 by Steve McCall.
Hey up folks,
Holly, my eldest daughter who is 12, wanted to do something to raise money for the poor people affected by the earthquake in Haiti and with her always eager to ride, we came up with the idea to ride all day from dawn till dusk. We will be riding mostly over the greenways of West Yorkshire with a bit of road cycling thrown in to link them up from dawn on the 6th March.
You can view Holly’s website here http://www.myactionaid.org.uk/hollymccall/hollys-all-day-bike-ride-1 where you can donate on-line.
Please donate all you can to aid the immediate relief effort for Haiti and to lessen the longer lasting affects of such a terrible disaster. If you would like to donate in person rather than on-line please do not hessitate to contact me on the phone numbers you already have or e-mail me on stevemccall@talktalk.net
Thanks,
Steve McCall
Club run Knaresborough 14/2/10
14/02/2010 by Steve McCall.
A lovely day dawned with many romantic lovebird Thorpers remaining in bed, smooth talking their loved ones instead of being romantic all year round and growing a pair of b4||$ and getting out for the Sunday run
There was a limited turn out of Rich C, Alex,Doug, John S, Martin, Craig and myself. Craig and Martin shot off as soon as they arrived for a steady run out whilst we chewed the fat for a while.
A great pace on a fresh sunny morning took us out to Tingley where we caught the 2 strays up and they immediately turned right instead of joining us through Rothwell, Garforth Aberford etc en route to Knaresborough. We thought the club captain was trying to tell us all something with his surreptitious attacks at the bottom of anything that remotely looked like a rise in gradient but we doggedly covered his pathetic attacks easily!
Capn Al took us on a lovely back road approach to Knaresborough whilst dodging the pedestrians that were upset we were riding in the road (sorry about following the highway code folks and making you move onto pavement!). We met up with Mrs Millman, Master Millman and Mrs Mother-in-law Millamn at a lovely Cafe on the side of the river (shame the HUGE pot of tea only had 1 tea bag though).
A terrible rolling terrain took it’s toll on the way to Otley where somewhere or other John left for home and Rich C disappeared into the ether up the road (unusual that, never seen that happen before.)
Stopped again at the Ritz in Otley where the deafest customers in the world congregate ( “JAM SPONGE, NUMBER 74, JAM SPONGE, ANYONE ORDERED JAM SPONGE!!!!!!!!!!” ”Oh, it’s us sat here right at the side of you love”. We were suprised the waitress didn’t throw the sponge in their laps)
A grovel back through Bradford made all the worse with Doug puncturing just for a rest. Mind you he walked in circles for 10 minutes before settling on the ideal spot to change it, OCD sufferer if I’ve ever seen one.
Stats were 72.74 miles @15.75 MPH avg.
Shame Al’s race was cancelled we could have sucked his wheel all day instead of having to do a bit on the front for once!!!!

Latest news on Mike.

I went to see Mike today, and although it will be a fairly long recovery, his spirits are high and he is looking forward to getting back in the saddle. He still has further surgery to go through, but he would like to pass on his thanks to everyone for your good wishes and support. Phil R.
Richmond Sportive 2010
10/02/2010 by Doug.
I entered this event last year and have done so again this year. It will be held on Saturday 29th May 2010. It costs just £15 to enter and the organisation last year was first class. The route for the 5 Dale 100 is spectacular - it takes in the most remote parts of the Yorkshire Dales and the toughest climbs up there. Consequently there is hardly any traffic. It is a great test of strength, stamina, endurance and character, and I recommend it to one and all. Don’t be a poof - come along!

Mike Kamis in an accident.
09/02/2010 by Steve McCall.
Mike has suffered a badly broken leg when commuting to work this morning, he was knocked off his bike by a car travelling in the opposite direction which turned right, across his path. This sent him flying over the car, landing on his leg which took the full brunt of the impact, the driver was questioned by the police but I have no more details regarding this.
He had a 2 hour operation at Dewsbury hospital this afternoon and has been advised that he faces a 5 month rehabilitation (don’t know if that is off work/ in pot/off his bike or what).
He will be sorely missed on the club runs and at the time trials he had planned for the year, it is a real shame for him as I’m sure you will all agree he has come on tremendously and had a promising season ahead of him.
Hope you get well soon Mike and I look forward to you dropping me again when you are out on that monster of a mountain bike.
Steve.
