A field of 90 riders entered the race, used by many as a season opener. Starting from Ranby and heading to Blyth, a great undulating route with several turns and a fast last couple of miles on the A1 south.

The weather was dry, sunny, and mild but a stiff breeze faced the riders on the hardest undulating part of the course making for slower times than last years event.
