GHS 100
20/04/2010 by John.
Sorry I haven’t written anything sooner, but I thought Fry-up was having a laugh when he asked me to write the blog…obviously not..so here goes.
On a nice and sunny Sunday morning the intrepid Thorpers set out to conquer 100miles..or there abouts, but by the time we got to Country Baskets 2 were already down! But in true Thorper style the rest of us battled on.
Appoligies now if I leave anyone out. Craig, Fry-up, Geoff, Jeremy, and myself made good progress on our own all the way to Cawood there we caught up with Otley cycling club and being true gentlemen let them go in front and sat on their back wheels. Upon entering Pocklington Fry-up stopped at a filling station and ordered Gingsters pies all round ( Bradley Wiggins eats them all the time)
At the check in point we met up with team Paul Dixon I think they’d been there for about an hour.. We set off back with 2 new recruits to our team, Les and Ben progress back was at a great pace with Les doing a lot of the leading when we reached Sherburn Fry-up decided we’d take the scenic route home which was very picturesque but probably another 10miles. The rest of the ride was mostly uneventfull until we reached Shaw Cross.. where..5 middle aged men and young Ben with a broken peddle decided to sprint for the finish..not a good idea as I realised when I got up on Monday and couldn’t move my legs!!! I don’t know the exact mileage or the average speed but a good day was had by all. (How did Martyn and David get back before us??)
sunday report
20/04/2010 by phil johnson.
seen as john said he was going to do the report this week and nowts “appened, well what a good turn wasn”t it? Did anybody get a head count sunday because maybe 30 riders set off from Dewsbury. There were martyn, Martin,John,Dave,Jonathan,Craig j, geoff, the 2 Phils,Richard, Paul b,Ben,Jim,Neil,Jeremy ,Les, and many more , can somebody help if ive mist out a name. For the benifit of the thorpers who had to stay at home due to broken bones or do some more hills in prep for next week, we all set of at a steady pace, dragging the sowerby lads up the only climb of the day, where once the summit was reached our first mechanical hit us, my advise jon would be to take it to Chris at spen velo in cleckheaton, he”s a very good repair man. Anyhow sadly that was the end for jonathan, who had to turn back after only doing a couple of miles. The second mech” happened to Dave h with a blow out only just down the road which led to the group now splitting up into smaller groups. I know i”m boring you all with mechanical stuff but it comes clear soon. Anyhow, the middle group of John,Geoff, jez[jeremy], and the 2 johnsons sped of for Cawood at a blistering tempo reaching the check point in great time with a 19.5 mph avg. At this stage i think we all thought we might knock it down some but we were swamped up by a large group from Otley who pushed the big ring hard ,which made for good riding all the way to pocklington. And so it came to pass soon after this we had our third mech”, where our new member jeremy showed us how to flatten a roadside cone at speed! Once at the cafe it was nice to meet up, i”m not going to bore you with the journey home but the only high light was watching ben doing a track stand on his bike and falling off, brill. See you all at 8 next sunday. phil j
Featherstone Evening Time Trial - 19/04/2010
20/04/2010 by Alastair.
Three Green and White Machines were in attendance for Alastair’s last race as a Thorper.
The course over at Pollington is 8.2 miles long, undulating, and the road surface can only be described as crap. We rode the course at the same time last year and dominated the leaders board so we set out with very similar intentions.
The evening drew a very cool breeze with temperatures hovering around 6 degrees. The wind wasn’t too bad but it wasn’t in a favourable direction. It was bloody freezing, though!
There were approximately 25 riders in total, quite a few more than last year. And the scores on the doors were:-
1st and the overall winner on the evening - Al - 18.55
2nd and joint third on the evening - Andy Cal - 19.24
3rd and 7th (?) on the evening and coming back into form - Steve McCall - 20:03
It’s been a pleasure riding with you, gents, and an honour to represent Ravensthorpe Cycling Club. It’s now time for you to breed some new blood so that Andy and Steve can continue to act as Father figures (or Grandfather figures
)
Keep it real.

Sunday’s BRCR
20/04/2010 by Martyn.
Hi,
About 300 riders ready to roll on Sunday. I drove the route yesterday to check and there have been loads of potholes filled in, and the road up Holme Moss is being resurfaced
Carlecotes near Dunford Bridge is a mess though, with pot holes and gravel
If anyone could help at the start to register the riders and hand out rider packs, numbers etc it would be appreciated. We are starting at the rugby club at Lockwood at 0700 and hopefully the kitchen will be open fpor strong coffee etc
Anyone available please let me know by email
Thanks
