Sunday Club Run 3rd and 10th Oct
28/09/2010 by Al and Sarah.
This Sundays Club run is heading south to Hope via the ever favorite Strines with the return route to be decided after lunch on the day. Sunday 10th is as blogged earlier to Ramsbottom to see the Rake Hill Climb. This is a very popular event and is hopefully worth the effort of cycling over to see it but maybe it might be worth setting off slightly earlier say 08.30am to ensure a early arrival. Any comments appreciated, cheers Alex
Re sunday run
27/09/2010 by johnthewliss.
for some reason for the second week in a row i cannot leave a comment on the sunday run blog.
Sunday was a dry but chilly day with an head wind most of the way there and back some of us took it in turns on the front others suffered in silence out on there own (sky!) will you not learn ?
The cafe stop was very eventful with lots of talent on show (well something was on show) cover up girls most of the group are of an age were that kind of thing raises there blood pressure beyond safe limits tut tut (mr johnson) i did however avert my gaze (for a second ) hehe
anyway its a cycling blog not a hot totty cafe forum
great route by mr johnson allthough we did cut it short on way back due to weather but a great future summer route,
great company and plenty this week and laugh they dont have fun like that in featherstone , and good food
not out this sunday but out saturday so to thosae only out sunday i’ll see you in 2 week and those out saturday i’ll see you then

MAD JOHN
sundays report
27/09/2010 by phil johnson.
Present at the start were andy , matt, rich c, jack, les, brad, adrian, phil r, mad john and sky john, and me making a good number of 11 thorpers. So of we sped with sky john again dictating the tempo which just made it that little bit harder with a fresh northerly head wind blowing. So over the tops we went for a quick brew at rossi , where we were met by geoff and my mate gaz[he with the tandem]. Off we went back into the cold, always nice to think the the wind would be there to blow us home and not change direction isn”t it! anyway jack pulled us along nicely as we sped onto skipton, getting there el pres pulled of for otley and it was here that adrian seemed the struggle with the tempo, not surprising really as he was just wearing a thin t”shirt, so with that we seemed to split up as we pushed onto hebden. Hebden… for those not out it was a nice run to the cafe, and its somewhere we can head for again, but sadly we hit it when it was full with walkers, and the sight of 12 cyclist just made them panic, a touch understaffed. it took some 50 minutes to get served, next time we will drop into bursall me thinks. Now it could be easy to be seen as a dirty old man, but no! im not going to say to much as im sure women and children read this blog, all i will say john is the next time we go lets take a saw and lower the table so that little belter issy has to bend down just that little bit more.mmm nice! a quick decicion made was because we had lost time was to head home via addington and home via keithly. And yes that wind did turn around so we had a head wind going home. unsure of mileage so if someone can give out number please. for the record… beans on toast with cheese with an egg[on a different plate]
sunday

Dear fellow thorpers, its that time again where your captain has to remind his other half that the love is still strong , even after another year. thus therefore Als having a day off on sunday [don”t forget the wedding anniv”s card mate]. So i have been given the captains armband for another day. i would like us to head north this sunday to somewhere we haven”t been as a club and that is Hebden. The route will take us past Skipton , turning off at linton, onto Grassington and dropping into the scenic village of hebden. i”m going to contact the cafe saturday to confirm its menu, if its not so good febs will be taken at Burnsall. A little bit of flat, a little bit of down and a bit more of up!
summer run
22/09/2010 by Martyn.
To all those who like a ‘good’ hill.
Anyone fancy a ride over to Cheshire/Staffs next summer, easy route out via Glossop and marple but some serious work on the way back via Mow Cop, Cat and Fiddle, Chunnel and Chinley heads then either woodhead or Holme moss to round off the day?
Nearer to home this Sunday is the last chance for anyone who fancies stretching legs to have a good bunch ride. the Arthur Metcalfe memorial ride starts at Easingwold 0930 Sunday and winds around Terrington, Flamingoland, Wombleton, Caukleys bank and garbutts Ghyll, 70 mile big route shorter ones are available
Usually a good turn out with Dinnington and Yorkshire road clubs sending some strong riders as well as a contingent from hartlepool where Arthur was from

Club Run 19/09/10 WET,WET,WET…
20/09/2010 by Al and Sarah.
I woke Sunday morning with a thick head, sore throat and the onset of my first cold in a long time. Luckly it was raining cats and dogs so I thought there would be little chance of anyone turning up. A quick ride down the road past the library and home, point in the bag and me back in bed, result? No chance, when i got to the library 5 other idiots were there with water dripping off their noses. The ride was on. The first stop was Wentworth which is not that far but turned out to be eventful for all the wrong reasons. On approaching a set of lights at Hoyland Common they turned red, leaving us with not a lot of space to pull up. After braking hard, unclipping and putting my foot down there was that awful noise behind me of bike hitting the tarmac. Unfortunately Jacks front wheel had slipped from under him resulting in a nasty crash and cuts and bruisers for him. Luckly we were very close to Wentworth so soon brews were in hand and Jack could fully assess the damage. Jack decided to head for home (hope your fit and well Jack) while the rest of us headed for Tickhill and the rain just kept on coming. Pedals or Paddles. I was never very confident of the route to Tickhill but somehow we made it. Thanks Matt for noticing the dinner stop just as i had us all ride past it..Oops..Fed and watered!!! we certainly were and now heading for home, is it left or right oh dear not sure. Oh sorry lads. Soon on the right track and yes more rain we were this time now heading for home. Into Doncaster and heads down for Wakefield which arrived just as my energy departed. I had hit the wall big style and the last miles from Wakefield to Mirfield was hell.. Never mind a great ride and company. Miles 87 average 15.4mph.. Now can I go back to bed?? Cheers Alex
Planned trip to the Velodrome - Postponed
20/09/2010 by Alastair.
Dear All,
Having been inundated with six replies to my latest post regarding track availability - the planned trip will now be postponed until further notice. The Velodrome’s 2011 schedule will be out shortly where it is hoped that there will be a free weekend that we can all attend, together, as a club.
Former Thorper rips up the road!
19/09/2010 by Steve McCall.
A great result for a rider that rose through our ranks and is putting into practice all that we taught him, Al rode a scorching ride and produced a time of 54.19 at the Stone Wheelers 25.
This is a fantastic time on what is a quite quick course but with 3 miles of 2-4% incline to finish, not the fastest, faster times are a-coming I’m sure.
Well done dude!
I rode like the fat lump I currently am and did a 0:40 and was annoyed at myslef for giving up on the last few miles ( a granny with rickets, staggering up with a zimmer frame overtook me and asked if I needed a hand!).
Andya nd John were due to ride the 50 up on the Boro course but have not heard what the did yet.
