Wishing all Thorpers a Happy And Speedy New Year

from   Keith Lightfoot

New Years day ride

Hi

If you want to shake off the remnants of your enjoyments there are cafes open in Holmfirth on Saturday ( New Years day) no reply from the corner house cafe as yet  but wrinkled stocking is open so I’d guess others are also?

 0900 at the bridge?

The forgotten trip to the fridge!!

On a cold boxing day morning six intrepid Thorpers, El Presidente, Bolty, Paul B, Al W, Sir Itus Titmus and myself set off for the Langset cafe. Phil and Martyn set a good pace there but upon arriving at the cafe the morning out when desperately downhill (it was freezing inside!!) After about 15 mins Martyn collared the owner and asked for the heating to be turned up, the chap said he would chuck a log on but as we were only there an hour and a quarter….. waiting for our food!! We never felt the benefit. The trip back was much the same with plenty of banter….A good way to get rid of the Christmas curvesSee you soonJohn

Goodbye Xmas Pud ride 9th Janu

For anyone wanting to test their fitness and ride in a new area with a larger bunch.  You can easily find a group to ride with at speeds suited to yourselves

This 100km Audax starts from the Anglers cafe in Thorne ( Doncaster) shoots over the flatlands to Messingham ( cafe) back up the estuary round Goole and used to stop at Boothferry, so we’ll see where the new cafes are, and then often into a block headwind to Thorne.

Craig J and myself have ridden this a number of times as a start to the year

0900 start and about 1 hr drive to get there

Club Run 02/01/11 The Years First Club Run.

Hi everyone I hope your all enjoying your festive breaks and are ready to dust your bikes off for a good start to 2011. The weather as not been kind to us so far this winter but thats not stopped us yet, so let battle commence and start the year off with a crank snapper beast of a ride to…. ROSSI’S.  OK not quite a beast but if the weather is good we can extend it and if not it’s straight home the flat way. Hope to see you all on the 2nd and wish everyone a very happy new year. Alex

2011 Brian Robinson Challenge Ride

Because of the small matter of Easter Sunday or as I originally spelled it Eatser!  We are moving the 2011 Robbo Ride forward a week ,as the marshals couldn’t make Easter Sunday

The date will be Sunday 17th April and that brings a change to the start from the Rugby Club at Lockwood as they are already booked, and i will be able to confirm a new , equally suitable venue soon.

We are keeping 90% of the route, just tweaking for the new HQ

Entries will open on Sportident soon

Once again the Dave Rayner Fund will be a beneficiary and the others for 2011 will  be announced soon

The 2010 event donated to the Rayner Fund, a charity supported by the West Yorks Advanced Motorcyclists, Prostate UK, the Cyclists Defence Fund and Kirklees Cycling Academy

Hill climb 2011

I think we should hold the hill climb here next year.

120th Anniversary celebrations

Thorpers reach another milestone in 2011 and there have already been talks about events to celebrate.

On our web site there is a booklet form to centenary which makes interesting and enlightening reading, ( Just look what they said about Craig Newton <G>!)

El Pres thinks that the anniversary dinner was around the time the club was formed  ie November, although no old records exist of the original club.

Give some thought to promoting and celebrating the achievements of one of the oldest cycling clubs in the country.

The Tour De France didn’t start until 1903,  by which time we were 12!

There is an event this year which also celebrates 120 years, if any Thorpers are interested…
