Ravensthorpe CC now join Twitter
24/01/2011 by Alastair.
Most of you old codgers won’t have a clue what Twitter is but for us young, hip, cool people, Twitter is where it’s at.
It’s very similar to Facebook but miles better, in my opinion. You can put short status updates (170 characters) to keep people up to date with RCC and everything were doing.
If you’re on Twitter, just type Ravensthorpe CC into the search box and click follow. http://twitter.com/#!/Ravensthorpe_CC
I’ll update the site as and when anything interesting arises!
Club Run 23/01/11 Uppermill and Glossop
24/01/2011 by Al and Sarah.
Boys out today = Me, Mad, Spinner, Dave, Martyn, Goeff, Mike, Paul, Alastair, New boy (another John) and someone else (sorry I asked your name and then forgot). So we all rolled out of Mirfield at a nice steady pace heading for Elland and our first hill of many, Hollywell green. Now this nicely split the group apart and warmed us all up. When we all gathered at the top we realised that the new rider John was a very capable bike rider and that we need not worry if he had dropped off the back as there was no chance of that happening. Right on to the next hill Stainland to Barkisland very steep but no traffic and a good surface all the way. A quick re group and off again this time on a single track road over to the Dam up above Ripponden and on to the main road over to Denshaw, Delph and then the first stop of the day at Uppermill. A very busy cafe just managed to squeeze all of us in and we all had a well earned rest and refuel. From eleven to five riders after breakfast as the others made there excuses and left us to continue to Glossop. Good effort new rider John for not taking the option of turning back with the others. Ok now for the ride over to Stalybridge and the two mile climb out of it. I was starting to suffer now and glad when the top slowly arrived and I could then enjoy the long decent down to the out skirts of Glossop now knowing the dinner stop was just a mile or so away. The garage cafe at Glossop is basic but good, with no complaints about the bean portions, in fact Alastair could not even finish his!!!Now Holme Moss or Woodhead?? sorry lads but I could not face the climb of Holme Moss so off we set for woodhead and I was now hitting the wall big style and the head wind was making things worse. John stayed with me up Woodhead and the rest shot off in to the distance. I scrapped myself to the top and we all re grouped and that was the climbing over for today. Now for the long decent to Newmill and flatish run into Huddersfield and Mirfield. Very tired today but a great ride and company. 65 miles and 14 MPH average speed. Next week we are going FLAT, what? well not totally but most of it, Tadcaster. See you next week cheers Alex.

We got some info via the club email about a new charity ride in February. I’m sure being university students , doing a degree they have researched their market, targetted their material to the audience and produced a first class product.

Just to let you know Brad has crashed today on the bike, he was 2 minutes from home after riding to Holmfirth & back when a car pulled out on him on Leeds Roads, Liversedge. He was taken to Dewsbury to be checked over, luckily he is only very badly bruised and has lots of cuts and graizes & strugling to walk at present. I don’t think he will be out on the bike for a few weeks!!! Ange

120 year Special edition shirt.
19/01/2011 by FactoryPilot.
Since the idea of a one off special edition shirt appears to have gone flat, I spoke to Andy on Sunday regarding my idea of a 120th anniversary special of the club jersey. My idea was to simply switch the black and white on the current club design, giving us what I think would be a very classy looking jersey, yet retaining the current design. Andy then suggested adding 120th Anniversary lettering in various places which would look fantastic. What does everyone think? If the new shorts come through with mor black on than white, then both shorts and jersey would look fantastic!! Get your ideas down here, and lets discuss…….. Brad.
