Dave Rayner Dinner - 12th November 2011 - Update

As far as I know with my last e-mail to the organiser in May we are booked in for a table of 12 at the dinner.  We are booked in as Bill Holmes  the organiser told me we where in for a table of 12.

So the money bit: I need £40 for the tickets by  12th October.

  • I can be down at the club house on Thursdays if people would like to pay then. (let my know when you are going down and then I can call down)
  •  send my an e-mail to r.j.creaser@leeds.ac.uk and I will froward my address so you can post a cheque or drop off the Money.
  • I will be out on Sundays 2nd October club run and others before the date but don’t know which ones.

The lucky people who confirmed they where attending on the original post in May are:

Ben, Steve McCall, Brad, Mad John, Al, Doug, Howard, Phil Rounding, Phil Johnson.

Alex I will keep you in, as we are all hoping you are well enough to come :-)

If any of the above can’t make it now due to other commitments then let me know.

I will arrange how we get there by train etc via a couple of pubs and getting home. Just need to do some research.

It will be a good bash, like a cafe stop but with better food and lots of drink.

MARK CAVENDISH - WORLD CHAMPION!

I just thought we ought to have a post to mark the occasion. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait another 46 years for it to happen again like we did last time (Tom Simpson 1965). This is an amazing achievement by a fantastic cyclist.

BAPTISM OF FIRE No 2 Club Run 25/09/11

At the start this mornong were Martyn L,Mick K,Sky John,Jonny D,Gentleman geoff,Phil J and myself Mad John.

The first baptism i Had was when i first joined the club over a year ago now when on the first sunday run we went to barley the hilly way,

The second was today after 2 weeks of all inclusive in a very hot country with no cycling what so ever and a further week off Phil Vice Captain Johnson decided on going to the lovely cfe at Earby and you guessed it Hill after Hill after Hill.

The first one coming only 20 mins into the ride, Have’nt got a clue what its called but its a right turn just outside Elland up to a cobbled stretch ,After this we got a bit lost , too much talking so it was back down to Sowerby bridge and on the back streets up another nice little dig then left and to the bottom of peckett well “Lovely Climb” When your fit most of the gang fled off up the climb with the star wheelers but Geoff and Myself decided to take it easy Rather than get cold waiting at the top :)

After this it was down to the bottom were Geoff went to rossi’s following Mick and Martyn who left us earlier which left four of us .

We went down into howarth and up past stanbury then on to the nice climb to the blacker lane pub down the other side a left turn and into Earby.

Those who have not been to Morgans at Earby really need to visit its one of the best cafe’s I’ve been to here we had two breakfasts and jonny and myself had pork ploughmans “Beautiful” After a few laughs and Sky upseting the dog around the back again we set off back in the direction of bradford yet more climbing and the old bingley road up to wakefield road and back home .

My stats were 78 miles ave 14.8mph not bad for first time back after putting a stone on on holiday.

I must say i am sorry to hear Sky is not renewing his membership next year has he intends on racing and were too slow for him:(

So until next week have fun

Mad John

Also well done Cav World Champion

Monster Time Trial in The Netherlands

Next Sunday I will be representing the Thorpers in the ‘Monster Time Trial’ in the polders in the Netherlands - battling the wind for 122 km’s. As you know this is my annual charity ride, this year I’m riding for Nyumbani - a Kenyan HIV+-orphanage. I am very close to doubling my objective and raise £1000 - and it would be great to achieve this milestone.

Attached is the link to my justgiving page and some further details about the time trial

sunday report

At the meeting point were Martyn and Martin, el prez,  John spindler, young Lewis, and myself.  Due to some wanting an early bath, Rossis was to be our mid point for those going back and for others to go onwards.  At this point jonny rang in late with a flat, so i waited, splitting the group up as we went over the tops to Kiethley.  Once at rossis we split up again, el pres with Lewis took the road to Otley, some going home and jonny and me heading for Burnsall.  The cafe was full as always with fellow cyclists and the full English was 10 out of 10. Home for us via Beamsley etc, catching abit of rain as we dropped into Bradford.   Just a few more weeks to get those points in and with no Mike or Mad John for the last few weeks things must be getting tight at the top!  Earby next week via pecket well [over the cobbles]

Team TT. (4 riders 3 bikes!)

Just 2 teams, Steve and Rob and me and Dawson senior on the start sheet. Where were you all?

The weather men had got it wrong again and the forecasted heavy rain and thunder turned out to be the best day of the year. Sunshine and very little wind.

Everything was in place for a good bit of end of season rivalry, until Dawson senior had a senior moment and realised he was in Hull, but his shoes were still in South Kirkby! Some gaffer tape over the laces of his trainers and we made the decision to give it a go.

On the way to the start we met Steve and Rob, stood hanging over their bikes, after battering each other for 10 miles. Quick explanation of the problem and they both offered their bikes and shoes.

Offering someone over a grand of bike with expensive carbon kit. Thats what you call a mate!  Cheers guys.

Anyway, the tt. First time i have ridden this course and a nice change not to be battered with head/ cross winds all the way round and feel the sun for a change. Good bit of fun, with everbody getting the hang of through and off (in a fashion) and deciding we should do more team tt’s. Times were Rob and Steve 24.04, with Rob setting off so fast Steve lost his wheel and the Dawson duo 24.20, with Barry insisting we would have beaten them, if he’d had his own bike (and shoes.)

Al the Rocket Wareham put in a stonking ride with a time around 20.35. (sorry Al, not sure of the exact time)

Onwards and upwards for next season!

wanted time trailists

Had this request in as club sec,

Hi Martyn, I am the event secretary for the Otley Cycle Club 2 Stage Open Hill Climb.   This event sees riders racing up Guise Cliff (just off Pateley Bridge) and Norwood Edge (a few miles from Otley).  This year it is to be held on Saturday 1st October 2011. I notice that quite a few Ravensthorpe CC riders have been riding the TT’s I have also ridden lately and wanted to make your club aware of the event as I have some entries from other Yorkshire clubs and I would really like the event to attract as Yorkshire riders as possible, especially with the Yorkshire Hill Climb ‘White Rose Shield’ at stake.    As I am sure you are aware not only is it a good event to ride, as a spectator it is also great fun and you can get to see some of the country’s top hill climbers such as Matt Clinton and Tejvan Pettinger. I wondered if you would pass this information onto all your riders to see if any would be interested in riding the event. Details of the hills and a Facebook group I have set up can be found at: http://otleycycleclub.co.uk/openevents.php Entries need to be with me by 20th September 2011 on the standard Cycling Time Trials form along with the entry fee of £7.00 (for both events). These can be sent to me at: The Old SchoolBurley WoodheadIlkleyWest YorkshireLS29 7AX I look forward to seeing some Ravensthorpe CC riders at the event and please do get in contact should you require any further information. Yours in cyclingClaire JessopOtley Cycling Club Hill Climb Event Secretary07900 212630
