Sunday Run to Boston Spa 27/11/2011

At the library this morning were Jack de Bokx, Doug T, Ben B, Nick S, Paul B, Rob H, Mick K, Phil J and myself the Mad one.

Jack ,Doug and Ben set off on what is now known as the Big boys run or the run for those on special pills supplied by Oops im not allowed to say,so please one of you write a blog for the day.

The rest of us the SLOW bunch set off to Boston Spa With a tail wind from heaven ,through Dewsbury ,Birstall ,Tong we were like pure pro’s 30 mph and the line was tight and we all took turns on the front untill we got to Headingley were the totty were out in force “Eyes front” off we set again on a lovely rolling road about 5 miles of quiet country road again all working together like pro’s we set a great pace all the way to the turn for Boston with only a couple of miles left togo we split up around the round about and i was doing 29 mph without turning a pedal all back together we turned up at the cafe and yet again Phil did not let us down.

The Cafe run by two Italian guys was pretty quiet ,I dont know why because the food was awesome and they were so quick in bringing it out , No English Breakfasts why would you want a fryup in a true Italian cafe .

So most of us had some kind of cappuccino and a panini ,Mine was meatball sweet chilli and mozzarello with side salad,

All fed and watered we all paid up and set off , Has we set off for home in the direction of Aberford it was straight into an headwind this lasted all the way home ,but again we were well versed in the through and off so it did’nt feel that bad but the pace did suffer just a tad,

So through Aberford onto Garforth and up the Ardsley and home via Leeds road .

A brilliant sunday run and yet again Phil you did’nt fail us .

But i have to say were all missing the captain , So get yourself fit and get pedalling Buddy

The stats are 60 miles

ave speed 18.2 mph

3201 cals burnt 2500 back on with the panini

Ok Ok So for the real story  we were never looking like pros we never went through and off and as for been a tight group only thing in the group thats tight is when Phil as to pay for what hes eaten ,but we can all have a good imagination :)

Real stats

60 miles

15.4 mph

Awesome company good laughs brilliant food

Next week cafe stop or not up to you Keithley , Peckett well , Cragg vale and home if you want Rossis you can but i will be carrying on without a stop and Has Phil is not out ive been given the armband.

so untill then Have fun

Thorpers in the news….

Just seen this on Cyclingnews. We have hit the big time chaps…

Shock as Yorkshire Squad invited to 2012 Tour de France.

Cyclingnews understands that the UCI are about to release the final wildcard place to the 2012 Tour de France to Yorkshires finest Cycling club - Ravensthorpe CC.

The shock announcement, which will send shockwaves throughout the cycling world has come about following months of bitter legal wrangling with the Yorkshire club that have been kept under wraps until now.

Back in November 2010, whilst reviewing the Road Racing rules, Club Secretary Martin ‘Rusty’ Bolt, uncovered an often missed rule that brought about the ‘Thorpers invitation.

Rule 145.3.a Sub section 12b stipulates “Any club formed prior to 1899 with 10 or more members is to be automatically included within the selection process for the Tour de France. Should said club not hold the required points for selection, allowances should be made based on rider style, looks and ability.

With the help of legal experts and club members, D. Tomlinson (specialising in Animal law (in particular Goats)) and A. WhereistheHam (Trainee Receptionist), Councillor Bolt took the ruling, along with an application to the ASO for formal review. Due to the lack of Rider points, the application was backed up solely based on the quality, style and good looks of B.Blyth, the club’s star rider.

Following months of legal arguments the Court for the Arbitration of Sport finally ruled this morning that Ravensthorpe CC should ride the 2012 event.

Members of the cycling world have been giving their views on the controversial inclusion:

Mark Cavendish said on Twitter “Seen Thorpers inclusion in Tour. Pleased for Blyth, classy rider. #BetterthanthatchumpWareham.

Lance Armstrong said: Interesting news on Thorpers in TdF. After my doping over the years that Dutchman De Bokx will fit right in #Manloverules

Fat McQuaid commented; This is a monumental moment for the world of cycling. Seeing a club of this stature in the worlds biggest race can only help build the excitement in the UK.

When asked about the storm of controversy around expected rider D. Tomlinson, McQuaid was a little more coy, “He is a rider I have heard a lot about. As a sport we must embrace people of all types and having the first pre op transsexual male to female rider is something we can’t ethically turn down.

Comment from the proposed squad has been a little more forthcoming:

A. WhereistheHam said “I can’t wait, to get to ride with such talented rides as Blyth is such an honour and I can only hope to be able to support him effectively. The rest of us are really there just for him, and I must say I do fancy him a bit too. I have decided to pack in with Team Swat who I used to ride with as ever since the incident with the pig in the club showers, relations have been strained.

J de Bokx was in a bullish mood, “I am ready. Why wouldn’t I be? I am strong like bull and I have pills, I have lots of pills for everything I could ever need. You need pill? I give you pill to make you write faster.

When questioned about the stringent doping tests that were in place at next years event, De Bokx could only comment “I have pill for that”.

D Tomlinson wasn’t formally interviewed however was heard commenting to a colleague, “I am only really going because I love looking at all the others legs. When they are wiggling away in front of me, what more motivation could you want to pedal harder”. Tomlinson was then seen to walk across and punch fellow rider S.McCall in the face.

Finally, John Gledhill was involved in a bizarre interview, “I can’t wait to ride, I’m the best rider in the club and will win the race. No problem.” He then started licking the interviewers face before riding off in an attempt to drop a 7 year old girl who was passing. She dropped him. He then got off his bike and spent 15 minutes trying to find his own tail.

Watch out with interest to see how the Thorpers do next year…

Garmin 500 for sale

Although I really liked it, my eyeside has gone too bad to still be able to read all these little numbers :-), so as Alastair already predicted, I decided to go for the 800. Which means that my Garmin 500 is for sale. I know some of you were looking into the 200, but make a good offer and you might have yourself an almost new 500 (just used for a couple of months). Obviously it will come without heart rate monitor or cadense, but you can easily buy those separately. New price is around £140 (without HRM/Cad).

cycle ride

wednesday 23rd. Thorpers Hrc and friends, meet Shawcross 0900 for ride to Wintersett, stopping at Riverside cafe (ALAMO) for refreshments.

sunday report

They do say proper planning prevents piss poor performance, and for me rolling in sunday morning at 4 pissed wasn”t quite the correct way to  prepare myself for the hills to come, but the thought at seeing all those mudgaurds dragged me out of bed.   And so at the meet Paul B, Lewis, Martyn, Mike K, Nick S, Sky John, Ben [yes its been 4 months]  and me set of for wigfield farm looking like a proper club on its first winter run.  Two missing were mad John and Jonny Dyson,  our mate Mad j surely nursing a painfull tat and jonny who has been found moonlighting in the stores at work.  And so of we went into the fog southwards, as we got to the point near mamas and papas we did a little split with Ben and i turning off  taking the back road to Farnley tyas to do the hilly way and the rest taking the main road route.  Once we got close to the windmills the sun broke through the cold mist we had had, but as we hit the main road for thurgoland it came down  again and thats how it stayed all day.  Getting to the cafe we all met up again and for the record beans on toast with an egg.  Home was taken via Dodworth and west bretton on what were now very slippery roads, not good but we all got home with no mishaps.  Unsure of the mileage, can anyone help with that?   Next week is Boston spa to a very nice little cafe run by 2 lads from Italy,  the menu doesn”t have beans on toast on it so be prepared for something different.[Bloody nice coffees though] .  The route will be via Birstal, tong, headingley, wike and collingham.  If its full at the cafe we can drop into tadcaster.

Sundays run

this will be the slow route

Sundays run

The destination this week  was to be the tearooms at Airton, however with the onset of poor light i am intending to bring the winter routes forward than planned. With this in mind i would like Wigfield farm to be our first route taken with FULL mudgaurds,  the route will be via Farnley tyas and home via Dodworth and west Bretton.  Its been a while since i”ve rode to the farm so it may be a chance we get lost but im sure we”ll get there,  i will study the map all week!   The week after will be Boston spa,  this route will take us into Leeds via Tong village, passing the cricket ground at Headingley and onwards for wike, collingham.   Both runs all being well should get us home for 2 ish. thanks
