cycle ride

wednesday 29th meet Scholes 0930 for ride to Hambleton cafe (Nr Bolton Abbey)calling at Rossi’s for coffee.60+miles if you go all the way. Some may not.

60 in 6

Well what a fantastic turn out at the Brighouse Ritz, I guess 60 plus riders were waiting for the off as the thorpers arrived to sign on. The peloton headed off at a brisk pace which as soon as we reached the first climb had me flying out the back but  I had  Doug power who pushed me back in to the action and I survived the climb. The fun of riding in a big group soon ended thou as most were doing the 80 mile route and we had decided on the 60 so we peeled off at the top of Manchester Rd and headed for Otley via Appleybridge, Pool bank and Leathley, very hilly!!!

We stopped at the Posh Cafe at Otley but the service was very slow thou the food was worth the wait which was great for me as I had chance to get my strength back before we then headed off for Bolton Bridge, Skipton and Keighley. Another stop for a coffee and then the last grind up to the final sign in at the pub near Queensbury. Spinner stopped for a pint and my well still be at the bar now!! The rest of us headed for home totally knackered.

Mileage 75 with a very good average of 15.5 M.P.H. a excellent day out lads well done.

Next week we are heading for Tadcaster and Tykes Cafe, see you next Sunday cheers Alex.

New testing member

We have a new member swelling the already engorged ranks of testers. Andrew Ridsdale raced a few times last year in opens and posted short 23s on the O10/2. He is riding this course in a few weeks time.

If you see him on course near you, give him a hearty Thorper welcome.

So it looks like we have more competition for the silverware this year.

V910 unexpected breezy and a bit cold

Today three of us Thorpers opened the testing season with a breezy and rather cold V910….as always a tough course but maybe for the time of the year it wasn’t too bad. With quite a big group of testers it was great to see Alastair take his first win in 21:58! (obviously we still consider him as our Thorpers offspring)
Times for the thorpers:
Jack did a 24:50
Les did 26:53
John T did 28:04
Well, the bullet has been bitten, up to the next one…..

V910 opening time trial season

This Sunday the time trial season starts again - the opening trial for some of us will be V910 (yes, a tough one!).

Starting times:

Les 10:07

Jack 10:31

John Thewliss 10:44

(Alastair 10:20)

Look forward to seeing you this Sunday supporting us!

Jack

club shirt

Ok thorpers,  the company we bought our shirts from for the 120 were shutt, the company who made the the shirts are called stagg and are based in Cleckheaton, thats fact number 1, fact number 2 is they still have the design/ patterns etc for the shirt,  fact number 3, i have put an order in for a polyester shirt with a full zip in the same design at a cost of £33 quid,   this shirt comes with the water proof middle pocket as before.   The only thing missing will be the 120 figure on the back, they are even putting fry up on the sleeve!  Stagg sports are making clothing for many of the local clubs with chevin cycles being one.   They have told me it will be ready within a week so once i have it i shall bring it down to the club house for those who wish to see it.   They do shorts, body warmers, long sleeve tops, the lot.      See you all Sunday[ dont forget the 2quid]  ps.  lets not open a debate on a new supplier for clothing , i haven”t run this by Les, ive only put in one order so lets just see.

cycle ride

Wednesday 22nd meet Shawcross 0930 for ride to Garforth for coffee stop, then onwards to the ALAMO( Riverside Cafe ) for lunch.

Club Run Sun 19th Feb Burnley

On a lovely sunny morning 7 Thorpers gathered outside the library Jack, Fryup, Jonny, Brad, Geoff, Mike the ref and me (Alex). Jack said a brief hello and set of on his own to do a RMR and the rest of us after a short discussion headed for the cafe near Townley Hall Burnley.

Now I set off at a slow pace which then got slower and slower.. Thanks lads for waiting for me and sorry if I spoiled your ride.

The cafe was as always bursting and we soon filled the few remaining seats but the food was great and the service good if a little slow. The return trip was a little easier with a tale wind but our good progress was soon slowed when Jonny had a bike problem which resulted in him having to nurse his bike home, I was pleased by the slower pace mind you..

Todays mileage was 60 miles with a appalling average 14.5 mph (down to me).. Next week is the 60 in 6 so we will be meeting at the library at 08.30 so we can be at the Ritz in Brighouse and all signed on and ready to go for 09.00 remember your 2 pound entrance fee.

Hope to see a good turn out next week, cheers Alex..

Got my Trek.

My new TrekIv’e set it up now.Got mudgaurds on it.Thinking about cutting off the excess stearing column as i think it looks silly with that bit sticking out the top.The top tube is quite short so i have put a longer stem on (the one that Mal gave me) and i will put the shoter stem that came with the bike on my other bike as that has a longer top tube so should have 2 bikes with the same distance from saddle to bars.
Anyway rode it this morning for a very steady 20 mile to Charlotts cafe and it rode like a dream. For the price it certainly rides well.Very responsive and goes well up the hills.Rides like a much more expensive bike.It was a hilly ride and certainly made the hills feel much easier compared to my heavy MTB.Its just a shame about the pain in my hip. It’s only muscular pain (joint is ok now) so a few wks with the physio should sort it out.

The only thing i have isues with is the front chainrings.50 and 34 tooth.A bit small for me and i think they are steel so i may put on my other spare shimano 600 chainset with 53 and 42 teeth. So it may save a bit of weight too. Very Happy
