This Sunday’s club run is to the Rivelin Valley. Leaving Mirfield at 9am heading for New Mills for the first climb of the day upto the Sovereign where we join the Sheffield road down to Wortley then down the old Woodhead road towards Sheffield, when we get to Hillsborough we turn right and head towards and up the Rivelin Valley and stop for dinner. Then on to the Snake Pass (from the other side for once) to Glossop, up Woodhead and then across the tops to Emley and home 80 miles approx. See you all Sunday Alex.

This weekends club run is to Glossop via Rippenden over the top to Denshaw, Delph, Uppermill, Stalybridge and then dinner at Glossop. Home via Snake pass and the Strines with a afternoon break at the windmill cafe. Those not looking for such a challenge can head home after dinner up Woodhead and do much less distance. A ride for everyone so I hope to see you all at the start on Sunday morning. Cheers Alex
club Run 15/08/10 Luddenden, Withens Moor, Bolton Bridge and Langbar.
15/08/2010 by Al and Sarah.
Sorry for the quality of this blog we need Ben back and his fantastic written skills (crap on a bike thou). Any way 14 members out today but not all in the same place! Martyn Bolt, Brad, Paul, Alex, Doug, Derick, Fry Up, Phil R, Dave, John S, Mad John, Sky John, Geoff and a new rider Chris. First mention is to Chris great ride today it was great to meet you and i hope you enjoyed your first outing with the Thorpers and hope you join us again soon. 10 riders left Mirfield heading for Rossis the long way up Crank Snapper Hill and over Withens Moor to Oxenhope and then down to Keighley. 3 others went the flatter way and just missed us at the cafe. From Keighley it was over to Bolton Bridge and then the tough climb of Langbar, very tough and well climbed by all. Great decent down from Langbar and then the chase for the cafe at Otley. The cafe at Otley was awful and we need to look at the one at Askwith in future which is highly regarded? Refreshed off we set up the old Chevin and on to the usual drag of Bradford and Manchester Road. Great day and weather. 72 miles 15.5 average speed. Next week Glossop, Snake Pass and the Strines. Hope to see you all soon. Cheers Alex
Sunday Club Run 15th Aug
12/08/2010 by Al and Sarah.
This sunday club run is over to Keighley via Withens Moor with a stop at the usual Rossis Cafe. Then over the Cringles, Bolton Bridge and the final big climb of Langbar!! followed with a afternoon brew at Otley. Now there will be a Guest Hill just thrown in for the fun of it which will be revealed on the day?? Those that dont fancy the hills then there is a much flatter alternative and we can still all meet up for breaks. So no excuse get your bikes out and lets see a good turn out.. Cheers Alex..
Club Run/Lynda’s Ride 8th August
02/08/2010 by Al and Sarah.
Lots of events taking place this coming weekend, Lynda’s Ride, Phil and Friends and also lots of members on Holiday. I (Alex) with Doug,Howard and Craig Newton,Craig Johnson and Ben ??are doing Lynda’s Ride so Club Run points will be awarded for all Thorpers taking part so come on those of you who have not put your name down. Now that leaves the Club Run it’s self without a Captain for the day so would someone be so kind as be a stand in Captain please. I have not put a run down on the calendar for the 8th so that still needs to be sorted out. Speaking of the Club Run calendar if any members have any suggestions for future runs then please post them here for my future planning. Thanks Alex
Lynda’s Ride August 8th 2010
21/07/2010 by Al and Sarah.
Lynda’s Ride is here again and Doug and I will be be supporting this great fundraising event for Kirkwood Hospice. The route is changed this year and now starts in Mirfield and heads for Morecambe on the west coast and comes back over the very challenging Trough of Bowland and Widdup Moor. 150 miles Approx. Now all Thorpers are very welcome to join us but this is for charity so a minimum £100 or very close to it in sponsorship is required. This ride will have a support crew and some food provided. It would be great to have some fellow Thorpers with us so please let me know if you’re interested. Cheers Al

club Run 18/07/10 How Stean Gorge
19/07/2010 by Al and Sarah.
A poor turn out of only 6 Thorpers set off from a wet and humid Mirfield, Alex, Doug, Phil R, Brad, Mad J and Jack.We were also joined by Ben and Fry Up at Hollings Hill who were late due to Fry Up doing his hair!! Maybe the poor weather put the others off from what turned out to be a excellent but very challenging ride.So 8 riders rolled into Otley for a early stop for tea and to fuel up for the next section of long climbs into strong blustery winds. No time for a fry up for Phil, it was back on to our bikes and off to do battle on the first big climb of Norwood Edge. First blood was taken by Ben who reached the top first quickly followed by Jack and then Doug and Brad, some time later the rest of us arrived and we re grouped. Well we all re grouped except Jack who kept going and was well out of sight and was never seen again. What happened Jack you missed the best part. From the top of Norwood Edge we soon turned left down to fewston reservoir and followed the quiet roads across to the A59 were we followed it briefly down to Blubberhouses and then turned right to West End on a very quiet but hilly road which leads towards GreenHow. At the end of this road El Presidenty (Phil R) threw the towel in and headed for home, sorry Phil. Now back to 6 we continued on towards Pateley Bridge and down (very slowly for me) Green How Hill which is a very long (2miles), very steep and on this occasion very wet and with scary patches of diesel. All safe into Pateley Bridge it was now a long slog up the valley to How Stean and a well earned lunch, 51 hard miles now on the clock and we all felt every one of them. People started to ask me if there was a flat way back to Mirfield, er NO, but maybe one with not so many hills. So we followed our steps back to Pateley Bridge and then turned left for Summer Bridge and then right over Dacre Banks, two fair climbs before the descent back to Otley down Norwood Edge. Oh hello again the Riverside Cafe for emergency fuel before the drudge of Bradford and Manchester road. 95 miles with a very respectable 15.2mph average speed. Well done everyone, hope to see you all next week for even more of the same.. Derbyshire here we come.. Cheers Alex..
