Club Run Sun 11th Thrybergh Country Park (part 3 at last))
12/03/2012 by Al and Sarah.
On a wonderful sunny morning 15 thorpers gathered at the library and then 3 quickly disappeared to do what I think they called the Jessy ride or something not sure what that is??? So 12 left we set off after a short delay (Brad had a flat) to Thrybergh country park. The route out was across to New Mill and then the long climb up to the Penistone Rd which we then followed to the other side of Wortley were we turn on to the Stocksbridge bypass for a quick blast down to Tankersley. After here we headed on to quieter roads and some of south Yorkshires best rolling country side, the pace was kept high and we soon reached our Dinner stop at Thrybergh. The sun was now high in the sky and a few of us were a tad over dressed for this unexpected heat with heavy winter jackets and nowhere to stow them if removed. The route back was over to Doncaster and in to a stiff head wind back on the Wakefield Rd. Here the pace was kept high and the usual push for home caused the pack to reduce as riders dropped of the back.
A great day out as always and a great turn out, 78 miles with a average 15.4 M.P.H.
Will have Mothers day commitments next week so need a stand in Captain please??
See you in two weeks Cheers Alex..
Club Run Sun 4th March
04/03/2012 by Al and Sarah.
Well the RMR riders stopped in bed this morning and the real hard men got on there bikes and did the club run!! Well done Jonny and Mike the ref for turning out on such a poor morning. So off we set to Rossis Cafe via Queensbury in the pouring rain which quickly turned to driving snow once we were on the tops but we kept the pace high and remained warm until we dropped down the hill towards Keighley. Here the strong head wind, snow and rain took its toll and we were all frozen and wet to the core by the time we reached the cafe but a hot brew and a bite to eat soon had us warmed up and ready to go again.
The route back was over the top again via Queensbury and we kept the pace high again too to keep warm but the rain kept coming and once on the tops the snow was settling well too.
A tough day but still good fun and great company..
Hope to see more of you next week and may be some RMR riders too, if it’s dry and warm, and sunny, and wind free!!!
Cheers Alex
60 in 6
26/02/2012 by Al and Sarah.
Well what a fantastic turn out at the Brighouse Ritz, I guess 60 plus riders were waiting for the off as the thorpers arrived to sign on. The peloton headed off at a brisk pace which as soon as we reached the first climb had me flying out the back but I had Doug power who pushed me back in to the action and I survived the climb. The fun of riding in a big group soon ended thou as most were doing the 80 mile route and we had decided on the 60 so we peeled off at the top of Manchester Rd and headed for Otley via Appleybridge, Pool bank and Leathley, very hilly!!!
We stopped at the Posh Cafe at Otley but the service was very slow thou the food was worth the wait which was great for me as I had chance to get my strength back before we then headed off for Bolton Bridge, Skipton and Keighley. Another stop for a coffee and then the last grind up to the final sign in at the pub near Queensbury. Spinner stopped for a pint and my well still be at the bar now!! The rest of us headed for home totally knackered.
Mileage 75 with a very good average of 15.5 M.P.H. a excellent day out lads well done.
Next week we are heading for Tadcaster and Tykes Cafe, see you next Sunday cheers Alex.
Club Run Sun 19th Feb Burnley
19/02/2012 by Al and Sarah.
On a lovely sunny morning 7 Thorpers gathered outside the library Jack, Fryup, Jonny, Brad, Geoff, Mike the ref and me (Alex). Jack said a brief hello and set of on his own to do a RMR and the rest of us after a short discussion headed for the cafe near Townley Hall Burnley.
Now I set off at a slow pace which then got slower and slower.. Thanks lads for waiting for me and sorry if I spoiled your ride.
The cafe was as always bursting and we soon filled the few remaining seats but the food was great and the service good if a little slow. The return trip was a little easier with a tale wind but our good progress was soon slowed when Jonny had a bike problem which resulted in him having to nurse his bike home, I was pleased by the slower pace mind you..
Todays mileage was 60 miles with a appalling average 14.5 mph (down to me).. Next week is the 60 in 6 so we will be meeting at the library at 08.30 so we can be at the Ritz in Brighouse and all signed on and ready to go for 09.00 remember your 2 pound entrance fee.
Hope to see a good turn out next week, cheers Alex..
Club Run Sun 5th Thrybergh Country Park (part two)
30/01/2012 by Al and Sarah.
Hi everyone I’m back from a great time in Florida and are now looking forward to getting back in to the swing of real life. The club run this coming Sunday we will be trying to reach Thrybergh Country Park for the second time after our failed attempt on the 8th Jan??? The following Sunday (12th) I will have to miss has it’s my youngest’s first birthday so Fryup will be in charge again but it is also the Batley bash which I’m sure lots of you will want to attend..
Sunday the 26th is the 60 in 6 from Brighouse which will be the club run for that Sunday but can anyone please confirm the details for me (start time, route and entry fee if there is one).
Dates for 120 ride and Lynda’s ride are still to confirm but I’m thinking June for the 120 and I will catch up with Dave and see what his plans are for Lynda’s ride but if Dave does intend to do it then I think we should support it with a big Thorper turn out??
OK thats it for now hope to see lots of you this coming Sunday.
Cheers Alex
Club Run Sun 8th Thrybergh Country Park
04/01/2012 by Al and Sarah.
Right where was I before I got rudely interrupted??? OK everyone it’s good to be back and planning a Club Run again, so to kick off with I thought we would go somewhere we have not visited before and that is the Lakeside Cafe at Thrybergh Country Park. The ride is approx 65miles with no silly hills but far from flat but dont let that put the RMR riders off as I’m far off club run fitness and all you RMR’s can push me as part of your fitness plan?? All this will be as always dependent on weather and if needs be we can cut it short and stop at Wigfield Farm.
Fingers crossed for good weather and a big turn out, it will be great to see you all again. Happy New Year, cheers Alex.

The capitano is starting his return! Am planning to go to the windmills on sat morning so wondering who else can make it out? Not sure how I’ll be as the biggest ride I’ve done so far is 11 miles but am hoping to do it, even if it is slowly! 9am at the bridge, hope to see some of you, weather permitting, as will be a struggle enough. Looking forward to it though, feels good to be back in the saddle, cheers Al.

Update on Alex
23/08/2011 by Al and Sarah.
Alex has asked me to post a message on here to update everyone in one go - we received the results today from his biopsy and it is something called a seminoma which is a germ cell cancer that originates in the testes. We have a clinic appt tomorrow at Leeds to hopefully find out more. We know he will need more tests and scans and most likely 9 to 12 weeks chemotherapy. Thankyou for everybody’s messages of support.
