For sale; vittoria corsa evo cx 22 tubulars
28/01/2012 by jack the flying dutchman.
As I have sold my planet X wheels and got a clincher disc wheel, I have two Vittoria Corsa Evo CX 22 mm tubulars for sale. They have a bit of gluetape remains but otherwise only did 10 miles! No wear at all. They are £55 new per piece but will sell them for £50 for the pair. Let me know if you’re interested.

Planet X wheels for sale with Vittoria Corsa Evo tubulars
09/01/2012 by jack the flying dutchman.
As I want to make the step to a back disk wheel, my Planet X wheels are for sale (82 front, 101 back, Shimano 10sp) with new Vittoria Corsa Evo tubulars (if wanted) - I can sell without tubulars as well.
Asking price - back and front wheel £300 (without the Shimano cassette) or £360 including the tubulars. They are great wheels, still very true and will make you very fast with a nice ZING sound……
Let me know if you are interested.
Garmin 500 for sale
24/11/2011 by jack the flying dutchman.
Although I really liked it, my eyeside has gone too bad to still be able to read all these little numbers :-), so as Alastair already predicted, I decided to go for the 800. Which means that my Garmin 500 is for sale. I know some of you were looking into the 200, but make a good offer and you might have yourself an almost new 500 (just used for a couple of months). Obviously it will come without heart rate monitor or cadense, but you can easily buy those separately. New price is around £140 (without HRM/Cad).

ride Sunday
11/11/2011 by jack the flying dutchman.
I know a lot of you will be having a massive hangover on Sunday morning and won’t go out on a ride but as I am not attending the Saturday Night Show, I am still riding on Sunday morning, out to Oxenhope over Pecket Well into Hebden Bridge, Crag Vaile, Riponden Bank and back home - just a little 50 mile ride. If anyone wants to join we can meet at the library, otherwise I’ll set off from home. Let me know.

Update on Alps Trip 2012
21/10/2011 by jack the flying dutchman.
All, just got the confirmation from the Chalet Beyond people that they need to final reservation around end of November. The trip is now scheduled for the week of July 9th, we might leave here on the Sunday - and come back the week later (i.e. July 15th). The Tour de France stage 11 to the Croix de Fer is on Thursday (July 12th) falls within this week, so an excellent opportunity to see the real guns shooting up a mountain again (and collect some hats, detergent, and whatever). So far we have Alastair, Doug and Ben joining - so that makes four of us, but if there are any more brave cyclists who want to join, let me know before November 25th. I will make the reservations that weekend.
Alps trip 2012
14/10/2011 by jack the flying dutchman.
As I am aware that not all will have a facebook account:
As the TdF route seems to be coming close again to our Chalet, I propose to have the Alps trip next year in the week of July 9th. This would allow us to cycle to the stage to Toussuire-Les Sybelles, which is probably taking place on the Thursday of that week. This is at the foot of the Croix de Fer, so it that might give us some nice miles and some good views of the ‘real stuff’. As this years length worked pretty well, I would propose to do something similar, so leaving on Monday (9 July) - staying somewhere on the road in a cheap plastic but clean F1 Hotel, arriving on Tuesday to do the famous Ravensthorpe CC Alpe d’Huez hill climb in the late afternoon, and returning on Sunday (15 July). The cost for B&B and full dinner every evening are around 50 Euro’s per person per day, so this would bring the cost to around 300 Euro’s, but obviously there will some extra’s for transport etc. I would like to book around end of November, so if you can let me know who would be interested……
PS - you don’t need to be a rider of worldclass to come, the Alp climbs are long and steady but never over 10%, most of the times they are somewhere between 6 and 8% but obviously for quite long distances (>10 miles). Usually there is a cafe near the top, so plenty of opportunities to regroup and enjoy the fantastic descents!
Monster Time Trial in The Netherlands
20/09/2011 by jack the flying dutchman.
Next Sunday I will be representing the Thorpers in the ‘Monster Time Trial’ in the polders in the Netherlands - battling the wind for 122 km’s. As you know this is my annual charity ride, this year I’m riding for Nyumbani - a Kenyan HIV+-orphanage. I am very close to doubling my objective and raise £1000 - and it would be great to achieve this milestone.
Attached is the link to my justgiving page and some further details about the time trial

V 240 YCF 30 mile Swimming Contest
28/08/2011 by jack the flying dutchman.
The V240 yesterday turned into a swimming contest. When i left for an early start, 5th, it started dripping, by the time i set off it started raining and at the end of the 30 mile drag over the A19 it was chucking it down. Together with significant wind gusts I got wet to the bone. The spay and puddles didn’t help getting into good rythm, nevertheless i wasn’t too disappointed with my result: 1h11′03, 25.3 mph average. Alastair ended as fifth in 1h04′03, well done! 25 riders DNF or DNS, which wasn’t a suprise with this weather.
Alps 2012
01/08/2011 by jack the flying dutchman.
As i understand there are a few Thorpers interested to join in next years Alps trip. Just FYI i normally start organizing around November, we know the TdF stages by then and can plan accordingly. If any stage get close to Oz en Oisans we might combine, otherwise we select another week earlier, probably end of June.
Be aware that the rides are tough, usually over 100 km with lots of climbing and high altitude (>2000mtr). Climbs can be up to 20 miles with gradients od 8 to 10% during all of the climb.
If you like to come, great, but be sure you can handle the rides…..there ain’t no shortcuts in the Alps!
