The forgotten trip to the fridge!!

On a cold boxing day morning six intrepid Thorpers, El Presidente, Bolty, Paul B, Al W, Sir Itus Titmus and myself set off for the Langset cafe. Phil and Martyn set a good pace there but upon arriving at the cafe the morning out when desperately downhill (it was freezing inside!!) After about 15 mins Martyn collared the owner and asked for the heating to be turned up, the chap said he would chuck a log on but as we were only there an hour and a quarter….. waiting for our food!! We never felt the benefit. The trip back was much the same with plenty of banter….A good way to get rid of the Christmas curvesSee you soonJohn

Better Late than never

On a cool over cast Sunday morninr 10 Thorpers set out for Ramsbottom Hill Climb, Big Al, even bigger Al Jack,Mad John, Sky John, Fry up Phil, Craig, Ben, Doug and myself. Good progress was made all the way there mainly because Brad and his Volvo were hid at points along the way taking pictures of men holding there bellies in and smiling!! Upon entering Ramsbottom we haeaded off to the Garden centre cafe for a feast, Millman’s loud remarks about the lack of beans brought howls of laughter as the waitress was stood right behind him listening. After Jack finished his eccles cake and half a coke he made the statement…why would you watch men ride up a hill? and promptly left. We then watched the hill climb for about half an hour 2 things sprung to mind.. paint.. and ..dry!! The next thing we new Captain Al summoned the troops and we headed home, at Littleborough every body turned left for Todmordon but Al was having none of it and called everyone back and quickly found a hill to climb..my God what a hill and waht a wind!! The climb was tough but we all made it after that it was straight back via Ripponden. A few questions have to be asked of this ride though.1. Are my legs as week as Warehams bladder?2.Will Craig go back to the cafe and ask the single sister behind the counter for  date?3.Will Sky John tell us where all his money actually comes from?Anyway the stats are distance about 75mile, pace  pretty good, enjoyment 10 out 0f 10seey

six go to Wentworth

A  small but select team set off on a blustery day to South Yorkshire, It comprised of myself martin, two chaps from sowerbys,a tall guy with Ravensthorpe kit and a bloke on an old red cannondale. we took the windmills route, and carried on to Wentworth and Tankersley , we made great time getting there as we had a fantastic tail wind. At the cafe stop no one had a full English [very disappointing] . After a quick break we headed off for home and straight in to a head wind, progress was tough all the way back. At the Black Bull at Midgley we turned down for Horbury, we said adios to Martyn  who carried on home. In Horbury I turned off for Hollywood hill and left the 3 remaining anonymous men to carry on to Mirfield. Total miles was about 50 and average speed was fast going slow coming back! If you need a tarmac report just e-mail Martyn!!

GHS 100

Sorry I haven’t written anything sooner, but I thought Fry-up was having a laugh when he asked me to write the blog…obviously not..so here goes.

On a nice and sunny Sunday morning the intrepid Thorpers set out to conquer 100miles..or there abouts, but by the time we got to Country Baskets 2 were already down! But in true Thorper style the rest of us battled on.

Appoligies now if I leave anyone out. Craig, Fry-up, Geoff, Jeremy, and myself made good progress on our own all the way to Cawood there we caught up with Otley cycling club and being true gentlemen let them go in front and sat on their back wheels. Upon entering Pocklington Fry-up stopped at a filling station and ordered Gingsters pies all round ( Bradley Wiggins eats them all the time)

At the check in point we met up with team Paul Dixon I think they’d been there for about an hour.. We set off back with 2 new recruits to our team, Les and Ben progress back was at a great pace with Les doing a lot of the leading when we reached Sherburn Fry-up decided we’d take the scenic route home which was very picturesque but probably another 10miles. The rest of the ride was mostly uneventfull until we reached Shaw Cross.. where..5 middle aged men and young Ben with a broken peddle decided to sprint for the finish..not a good idea as I realised when I got up on Monday and couldn’t move my legs!!! I don’t know the exact mileage or the average speed but a good day was had by all. (How did Martyn and David get back before us??)
