sunday report

Today at the meet were Jack, El prez, Mike k, Paul b, Spindler john, and me . Where”s all the Johns gone? it wasn”t that long ago we would have 4 out on a sunday but they seem to have retired and put their bikes away to collect the dust, never mind, all talk was of the ride and making sure we kept safe on the tricky road surface. With this in mind we set of for squires cafe sticking to the gritted roads onwards for Garforth taking our normal route. Sadly Paul got a blow out to his rear tyre at Swillington and decided to call it a day. so upto Garforth and onto the A63 we rode getting to the cafe in good time. For the record sausage and egg with pepper on[ sorry Craig]. Home via Cas , Methley etc. Next Sunday is Christmas day, and i wish you all well and merry[ Ben that means get pissed….. for you that means stay pissed] . On boxing day there will be a ride out to Langsett with a 9.30 start so for those who want the points can you make a report please, i will see you all the week after maybe with Alex back at the helm. Lastly, just a reminder the grange do is now 4 week away and they want me to give some numbers in 2 weeks time , so if you can can make your minds up, put it down on this report or find the menu in Novembers report.

Today at the meet were el prez, Martyn, Craig j, rich c, Spindler john, Mike k, and me your v captain fry up. With the weather forecast poor for the day we agreed to go to rossis, and if it came better maybe going on a little more but it never did, with the rain setting in around Wyke. Our passage to rossis was via Bradford and manningham lane and all the talk was about where the real men were this cold wet sunday morning, were they now on pecket well? cragg vale? or maybe when the going gets tough they were still tucked up in bed more like. Anyhow, once at the cafe all thoughts were on hot coffee and buttys, for the record, sausage and egg with plenty black pepper[ sorry Craig]. Our route home was over the tops and back into the now ever so slightly heavier rain. For the next month or so i will be picking a route on the day due to the weather becoming worse but will keep it a way so we can get home for 2.

They do say proper planning prevents piss poor performance, and for me rolling in sunday morning at 4 pissed wasn”t quite the correct way to prepare myself for the hills to come, but the thought at seeing all those mudgaurds dragged me out of bed. And so at the meet Paul B, Lewis, Martyn, Mike K, Nick S, Sky John, Ben [yes its been 4 months] and me set of for wigfield farm looking like a proper club on its first winter run. Two missing were mad John and Jonny Dyson, our mate Mad j surely nursing a painfull tat and jonny who has been found moonlighting in the stores at work. And so of we went into the fog southwards, as we got to the point near mamas and papas we did a little split with Ben and i turning off taking the back road to Farnley tyas to do the hilly way and the rest taking the main road route. Once we got close to the windmills the sun broke through the cold mist we had had, but as we hit the main road for thurgoland it came down again and thats how it stayed all day. Getting to the cafe we all met up again and for the record beans on toast with an egg. Home was taken via Dodworth and west bretton on what were now very slippery roads, not good but we all got home with no mishaps. Unsure of the mileage, can anyone help with that? Next week is Boston spa to a very nice little cafe run by 2 lads from Italy, the menu doesn”t have beans on toast on it so be prepared for something different.[Bloody nice coffees though] . The route will be via Birstal, tong, headingley, wike and collingham. If its full at the cafe we can drop into tadcaster.

The destination this week was to be the tearooms at Airton, however with the onset of poor light i am intending to bring the winter routes forward than planned. With this in mind i would like Wigfield farm to be our first route taken with FULL mudgaurds, the route will be via Farnley tyas and home via Dodworth and west Bretton. Its been a while since i”ve rode to the farm so it may be a chance we get lost but im sure we”ll get there, i will study the map all week! The week after will be Boston spa, this route will take us into Leeds via Tong village, passing the cricket ground at Headingley and onwards for wike, collingham. Both runs all being well should get us home for 2 ish. thanks

Today at the meet were mad j, mike k, Al , rich c, jack, el prez, Brad, back from a long time away John collinson, new boy Steve g, and me. Notice was given that we would meet Martin l and suggy at the free wheel starting point, so off we went over the tops for our first big comp of the day the down hill. Got to say it was done very much in a gentleman manner, all leaving on a gentle roll, [think Kamis must have got a push] and the competition was intense with Brad coming out the winner by a mile! don”t know what advantage Brads got over everyone else but it worked. And so onto the up hill at high Hoyland, not looking forward to this, to much pain and so it proved. Lots were drawn and Steve went of first, 1 minute gaps between us all. Pain and suffering. And so, it was over in no time[but enough of Bens sex life] and the congrats go again to Rich who smashed his record getting under 5 minutes[ think that kamis got a push] . Many thanks to Martin , suggy and el prez for their work time keeping. With a quick turn around we headed onwards for the windmills cafe where we met up with another new boy in Stevie v, so making a number of 13 thorpers out. For the record .. sausage butty with a very nice coffee. ps. For those who don”t know, most of us will be sleeping in next Sunday due to the Rayner do, if anybodys out and want the points please make a report ..ta

Ok at the meet today were Mick K, Sky John, Spindler John, Mad John, Martyn, Lewis, Brad, Hadfield junior, me and 2 others for the first time out Ash and Geoff. So Bolty, Lewis, Ash and Geoff took the route via thornhill and everyone else the hilly route onwards to Grange moor and on at a cracking pace dropping down into Wakey, Normanton, getting to Cas for a brew being met by el prez , Derrick and suggy. So after our teas and coffee and in true thorpers style we all split up again, everyone going home except sky, el prez, suggy, Martyn, Lewis and me. Normally eastwards is spoilt by a headwind but today we rode for too hoots in near perfect conditions, little wind and sun.. nice. We took the route via Brotherton, getting to the garden centre cafe in the next hour. As soon as we turned into the car park things didn”t bode well as 2 women said turn back not ” its bedlam! what ever did she mean? as we found the cafe it came clear, it was packed, packed with Wakefield cycling club, BBM from Normanton, south Kirby cc members and then us just topped it off giving the hard worked lasses a nervous breakdown, think sutton bank cafe for the 120 and thats about it. Did everyone get fed? well we all did on our table all be it a little late, got to say the food was very nice considering. Well done young Lewis again, 1 for a good ride and 2 for keeping it all in till the garage[ poor lad nearly shat himself]. see you all next sunday for the hill comps… fry up ps Hadfield senior made it to too hoots with wakey cc
