I’ll upload all of the pictures tomorrow.

The freewheel contest was won by Brad who covered a huge distance!!! All of the pie eating/interval training has paid dividends, mate. Well done. No idea of overall placings…..

Spam, lots of bloody spam!

Is anyone else getting loads of spam emails from past threads from years gone by?

I must have had 40 odd emails since last night. It’s doing my ‘kin nut in!!

Stagadabadoo Reminder

Just a quick reminder about next Saturday.

I’ve booked a table for 19:00 at Grappolo’s Italian Restaurant in Lockwood, Huddersfield. We can meet around 6.45, have a drink at the bar and then sit down for some grub. Mr Creaser has very kindly drafted a map of all the real ale pubs in Huddersfield so we’ll be following the trail from Lockwood right the way into the town centre.

So far, in attendance from RCC, will be:-

Stevey Mac, Douglas, Ben, Phil Johnson, John Thewliss, Martyn Bolt, Richard Creaser, Dave Hirst.

If anyone else would like to come, please stick your hand up now and make yourselves known as I will need to confirm numbers with the restaurant next Friday. Additionally, if any of you are now unable to come, please let it be known as soon as possible.

There will be about 20 of us in total so I expect you all to be on your best behaviour!

Peace and love to you all

Stag-A-Dab-A-Doooooo!

Now then Thorpers!

As I’m sure you’re all aware, I’m getting hitched in May so in order to celebrate this tragic event, I thought a few beers and perhaps a meal would be in order.

I’d love it if as many of you as possible could make it as I don’t have a large friend following nowadays!!! Cycling and work rule my life so I have no time for a social life, other than cycling. Seriously, though, you lot a proper bo and we always have a great laugh so lets take this opportunity to socialise.

The date - Saturday 23 April 2011

The time - 7pm

The plan - Sit down meal @ Grappolo’s in Lockwood, Huddersfield, followed by copious amounts ofreal ale (and a few kms in walking to get round all of the pubs)

I’m not much of a drinker these days but for the sake of one evening, I’m willing to sink a few until I fall asleep, which will be after 3 pints if I’m true to form!!

This will then be followed by the Club Ride on the Sunday :)

Let me know if you can make it.

Batley Bash Part Two

I’ll also pick this up around the 45 mile mark.

So, at around the half way mark we ground to a sudden halt with half of the peloton emptying their bladders. Unsurprisingly I was one of them.

Having emptied the bladder, I set off in hot pursuit of the leading pack which included Ben and Rich C. Fortunately, I bumped into a fellow tester (not literally), Mark Thaxter of HSW, who is extremley bloody fast!  I gave his wheel a good old suck and we were able to catch up to the leading group.

Now the fun & games were just about to begin. The leading pack was led by Duncan Moralee of Sportscover Altura, a semi-pro UK Domestic racing team with riders like Kevin Dawson & Ashley Brown amongst their roster of riders.

From a relatively sedate pace of 18mph on the way out, we were not flying along at 27 mph. Ben & Creaser were right in the mix. We now had the wind almost behind us and the pace just kept going up and up and eventually riders started to drop off. I think we lost Ben at Pontefract which left Creaser and I fighting for our lives!!

One thing I have observed about Road Racers is they don’t know how to keep at a certain high pace. There were riders yo yoing off the front, to the back, back up to the front and back off again so as you can imagine, there was lots of jostling for position. Creaser and I flung our elbows around and held our own.

Creaser and I slowly made our way right up to the front of the group and I gave some thought to doing a turn on the front but my legs were starting to fill with lactic acid so I sucked Duncan’s wheel for a bit instead. Creaser was keeping very close, drafting me because the benefits of doing so are great, given my 6ft 3 in frame. Me drafting Creaser, on the other hand is not so great because he’s bloody tiny!!

The pace was relentless and we were finally stopped in our tracks at some traffic lights just after Wakefield Europort. Time for a quick breather? Nope!! The pace from the traffic lights was just ridiculous and with the gradient going up my lungs were starting to burst! I looked behind me and Creaser was not in sight! The front group were then caught at the lights near Heath Common. Creaser caught up, along with Mark Thaxter, having got boxed in at the lights as a result of road works.

Creaser and I then made the decision to go home via Horbury and left the leading pack fighting out the bunch sprint.

My average speed at this point was 20.4 mph, which, bearing in mind there was a strong headwind for much of the ride, was not too shabby.

Creaser then punctured just after Horbury and despite my offering to help, I was told to get on my way as it had just started to rain. Hope you fixed it OK Crease!

Got home, checked the Garmin and I’d clocked 97.01 miles at 19.4 mph ave.

I then collapsed as I got through the door.

What a day.

What a ride.

Well done Craig Newton and well done to all Thorpers who rode!

Craig has put some pictures on FB -  http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/photo.php?fbid=1804223875138&set=a.1804223635132.2103834.1526104497&theater

I won’t be out for a few weeks now as the racing season is upon on. It’s been great riding with you, Thorpers.

Ravensthorpe CC now join Twitter

Most of you old codgers won’t have a clue what Twitter is but for us young, hip, cool people, Twitter is where it’s at.

It’s very similar to Facebook but miles better, in my opinion. You can put short status updates (170 characters) to keep people up to date with RCC and everything were doing.

If you’re on Twitter, just type Ravensthorpe CC into the search box and click follow. http://twitter.com/#!/Ravensthorpe_CC

I’ll update the site as and when anything interesting arises!

Manchester Velodrome

Hi guys,

Just spoken with the Velodrome regarding private track hire.

I was told that there is nothing available at weekends in January, February & March 2011. There are likely to be some weekends available in April and May. I have been added to the Waiting List and will be notified when the weekend dates in April and May are announced. We will have to get in there quick when the dates are finally announced.

Just a case of watch this space for the time being.
