Dave Rayner Dinner Saturday 12th November – The Master Plan.

Dave Rayner Dinner Saturday 12th November – The Master Plan.

I have now had chance to put a plan together for Saturday. Here we go.

1.    15:00 - Meet Dewsbury Railway station, may have time for a beer if you get there in time.

2.    15:12 - Train out of Dewsbury – Leeds (Al you get on the 14:57 from Huddersfield.)

3.    15:32 - Arrive in Leeds

4.    15:40 - Meet at the Brewery Tap Pub - Leeds (near the new Evans cycle shop, this pub is not the Scarbourgh Taps) http://www.brewerytapleeds.co.uk/

5.    17:07 – Train out of Leeds to Bradford. (That gives us 1 hour 20 in the pub)

6.    17:40 – Arrive at Dave Rayner Dinner.

7.    Getting Home is obviously a bit trickier with people not living in the same area.

  • I can try and arrange a 7 seat Taxi to drop in Mirfield and Thornhill - (Me, John, Paul, Captain Safety, Phil R, Alex & Howard)·
  • Brad, Phil J & Ben could share a Taxi.
  • Doug and Al not sure what you want to do with you two as you live in totally different areas. Any ideas?

·         I am calling at the club on Thursday with tickets for Phil Rounding, Howard & Phil Johnson. If anyone else is getting there by themselves please let me know.

·         I and certain others will be wearing a suit with no tie. It is not a formal dinner but everyone does dress smart. So let’s make a good appearance.

·         We have been informed that the Hilton have fixed beer at £2.80 a pint and wine at £6. Happy Days.

Hope this is good for everyone – I am looking forward to the day.

Dave Rayner Dinner - 12th November 2011 - Update

As far as I know with my last e-mail to the organiser in May we are booked in for a table of 12 at the dinner.  We are booked in as Bill Holmes  the organiser told me we where in for a table of 12.

So the money bit: I need £40 for the tickets by  12th October.

  • I can be down at the club house on Thursdays if people would like to pay then. (let my know when you are going down and then I can call down)
  •  send my an e-mail to r.j.creaser@leeds.ac.uk and I will froward my address so you can post a cheque or drop off the Money.
  • I will be out on Sundays 2nd October club run and others before the date but don’t know which ones.

The lucky people who confirmed they where attending on the original post in May are:

Ben, Steve McCall, Brad, Mad John, Al, Doug, Howard, Phil Rounding, Phil Johnson.

Alex I will keep you in, as we are all hoping you are well enough to come :-)

If any of the above can’t make it now due to other commitments then let me know.

I will arrange how we get there by train etc via a couple of pubs and getting home. Just need to do some research.

It will be a good bash, like a cafe stop but with better food and lots of drink.

Thorper Pays homage at Madonna of Ghisallo.

italy-2011-159.jpgitaly-2011-183.jpgitaly-2011-178.jpgitaly-2011-181.jpgAs part of my relaxing family holiday around the shores of Lake Como in Italy. Well as relaxing as our 2 year old daughter Amy will allow. I have been to visit the Madonna of Ghisallo Church. In 1949 the Pope of the time, appointed the Madonna of Ghisallo the patron Saint of Italian cycling. The Church is located on top of a climb, which is quite small to Italians but the equivalent of Holme Moss to us. A lot of you will know it as it is the final climb on the Tour of Lombardy in October.

It has bikes of past champions dead and alive. Including the bike of Fabio Casartelli (16 August 1970 – 18 July 1995) who crashed and died on the descent of the Col de Portet d’Aspet, France, during the 15th stage of the 1995 Tour de France. Starring up at his bent and battered bike was a bit surreal as I was watching the race on TV when he crashed. Also bikes of Eddy Merckx, Gino Bartali and many others hang on the wall among signed donated jerseys of past and present champions. No Thorper Champions though!

As it is our 120thyear I left a Ravensthorpe C.C cap in the church and we lit a candle. Not that I am religious, but I hope it brings us Thorper members good luck when on our bikes.

Ciao Bello

Rich, Diane & Amy.

Dave Rayner Fund Dinner Saturday12th November 2011

I am looking at booking a table at the Dave Rayner Dinner this year as Ravensthorpe C.C.  The Dave Rayner Fund in memory of Dave was set up to raise money to aid young riders wanting to race abroad. There is a committee who decide on which riders are going to receive support each year. Our own Brian Robinson & Martyn Bolt are on this committee. The fund has been very successful over the years in sending youngsters abroad and a lot have gone on to be pros which we now watch on the TV. (The fund was going before the modern BC cycling academy)

The dinner attracts some top names to raise support and money I have previously been to 2 dinners and met the likes of Paolo Bettini, Mark Cavendish, Bradley Wiggins, David Miller and best of all Jimmy Savile. So you will need those autograph pens. David Harmon the Euro Sport commentator holds an auction of donated items. These items vary from signed framed jerseys to cycling art work and go for a lot of money. I bid and bought two pieces of art work 1 year. There is also normally a raffle with some very good donated prizes. These prizes are not bits of Turkish delight and cheap bottles of whiskey or some unwanted denim aftershave. My mate won a signed Giro Ionos 1 year, and there are wheel sets etc. You will be surprised what people give if it’s for a good cause.

Any way now for the Money bit. The cost is £40 per person and includes a 3 course meal at the Hilton Hotel in Bradford. I need people interested in attending to let me know so I can organise a 10 or a 12 seat table. I will then take deposits so I can secure the table. My plan is make our own way there and call for a couple of drinks before the dinner at a good local ale house. So once numbers are confirmed a will enquire and arrange a taxi/minibus if needs be to take us all home as it finishes after 12 for all those Cinderella types. Due to the limited number of places I will have to say this is for members only I don’t think we can accommodate wives/partners. The crack will be good just like a Sunday cafe stop but with beer and wine. No beans on toast with egg though!

http://www.daveraynerfund.com/index.htm - THIS IS THE WEB PAGE IT IS NOT THE BEST BUT THATS NO REFLECTION ON THE WORK THIS FUND DOES.

http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest/507146/rayner-dinner-raises-20-000-photo-special.html     - This is a link to a report on last years dinner.

So let me know if you want to come and I will put the wheels in motion to get a table secured.

I know this is in November but we could do with been organized on this event

Meeting Notes - 5th May 2011

I have now done the notes from the meeting. Rich C.

Ravensthorpe CC meeting 5th May 2011

120 Anniversary update.

June 5th is still the agreed and confirmed the date for the 120 miles club ride to Sutton bank. A practice run Borough Bridge was done on 1st May which was useful as it found a couple of flaws in the route (one being a nice Paris Roubaix style dirt track). These flaws will be sorted by the day of the real ride. We found a cafe at Borough Bridge which was pretty good but might be short on space. It was agreed we will try and stick together for as long as possible at least to Tadcaster.

 Clothing Update.

The new 120 anniversary jerseys are now in full use and flying around the district on our backs. All agreed they look good and where worth the wait to get them. Thanks again to Ben for organizing them.

The Imp Sport stock controlled by Andy is up to date and anyone wanting new items should contact him to add to the next order. The IMP sport kit is still the registered kit for race events and not the Ltd edition Jersey.

Racing Update.

The Club run 10 miles Time Trial event had a good turn out and went well. Thanks to those members who even turned up to race and then helped with starting and marshalling. The next club related event is the 25 mile TT event on the V232 around Borough Bridge. This event was to be where the 25 mile TT trophies are decided.

As I write theses notes the latest on this event is as follows: There is VERY good chance of all club members getting a ride in this event as the event organiser is very accomodating and the district committee have assisted to ensure more riders can ride.

Another good event was pointed out which is worth a ride in and that is the YCF 10 on the V718 on the 4th June. Speak with Andy or Steve for more details on this event.

Club Runs.

These are going extremely well with a good core of regular riders turning out on Sundays. Alex and Phil are still planning good varied routes.

The GYBR will take place on 18th June all entries are now closed. The club run on that day will probably follow the GYBR route but we will not be able to enjoy the feast of a lunch in the field.

‘Lynda’s Ride’ the ride for Kirkwood hospice in memory of Dave Sowerby’s wife will take place on 26th June. For more information on this ride see the shop web page or call in to see Dave at the shop.

Membership

The possibility of a membership form to be put in place was also discussed. This would be for current members and new members to register their details to be held by the club. People feel there is a need for this as we have a new members joining and potential members wanting to join. I agreed to look into the possibility of putting a form together and launching it in time for the AGM. Alex had concerns that riders are coming on club runs without the relevant 3rd party insurance. The other issue raised which relates to this is that only members of the club should be able to purchase club kit. I will speak with Phil Rounding about issues with membership.

Members also asked about the roles of the committee and what the role entails. We agreed that a list would be put together to inform people of the roles. This would give a chance for members to consider volunteering for them prior to the AGM meeting.

Next meeting 4th August

Thanks Ben!

I have tried my Jersey on and it is spot on, a really good quality product.

Thanks for sorting them out Ben their great. I am gonna sleep in mine.

Carbon Fibre Repairs

Hello

I came across these people at the bike show. They can Repair carbon frames to a very good standard they used to work for Honda on the car racing scene and really seem to know about carbon fibre. They can give quotes on frame re-lacquering too.

There are not many companies out there who can do this type of work. (its not like spraying and repairing those old school steel frames you know) I have spoke to a couple of others and they did not instill me with confidence like this company.
