December Club Meeting

15 members were present at the new club house.

Discussions took place on how we can move the club forward.

Grants are available though in one case with a lengthy form

 Potential things to be funded

Training members to be coaches, having looked at this today there are 2 routes, and I suggest anyone  considerring this should look at the web sites of ABCC   and BC and  circulate pros and cons of each for future discussion.  For example you can only go on a BC course if you are first aid trained to a set standard  and have a CRB check.  ABCC is a correspondance course, BC is a 2 day course  and so on

Rob suggested getting a bike trailer for members to use on sportives, races etc.  Storage, towing etc was raised and it wasn’t progressed

Thursday cycle sessions  had some discussion, putting on a regular  , event  or training evening run by a qualified and CRB checked person, this could include road safety training

No firm decisions were taken about what we might apply for

It was decided to have  regular Turbo sessions running all year.  These will be on the 1st,2nd and 3rd Thursday of the month  and we will try and put on a monthly talk or demonstration which  we can try and encourage other cyclists to attend.  Any suggestions or contacts please, what would YOU like to see?

Care must be taken when bringing bikes etc into the club house, Phil is going to buy some sheeting to put under the bikes but members are responsible to make sure no oil or dirt is dropped onto the floors and carpets

We are getting more members out on runs, but the issue of mudguards arose, what do members think about agreeing mudguards between certain dates in winter?

Kirklees cycling meeting

a good chance to air your views about cycling and also in view of discussions about youth cycling ask BC what support they can give?

Move to new club house

I have spoken to Battyeford Sporting and they are arranging keys etc for the new clubhouse.

I am trying to get something arranged for that night to start off with a ‘bang’, fitness tests, interactive turbo are a couple of feelers I have put out.

Please can you help by ringng round club members in particular the ones we don’t see or who aren’t on the blog?

If we can try to drum up support it will help?

i am trying to get something in the papers this week to attract members of the public and if we can go down with club tops we can get a team photo for the next week’s paper?

7.30 December 4th at the new ‘home’?

New Club room

Battyeford Sporting Club have confirmed that Thorpers can use their rooms.

Talking to Phil before he left, we will move in from the beginning of December.

As discussed at the AGM we are hoping to revert to Thursdays.

If possible can somene have a look in the cellar of the scout hut and see what we have to move to battyeford?

Just to remind everyone, the new clubhouse is opposite Coppin Hall lane, just off Huddersdfield RD and next to John Cotton’s.

Loads of lit car parking and a pub nearby.

AGM

I have been a member for some thirty years and think that last nights meeting was perhaps one of the best I have attended. The discussions and attitudes were so positive. Thanks to the new members for their contributions and offers to take on various positions. Thanks to Phil and Martin for the way they ran the meeting. Also thanks to Martin for setting up the possibility of a new clubroom ,well done. As they say in the advert. the future is THORPERS

The club A.G.M. is to be held late october. It now the time to think of who you want to be the officials for 2008/2009, we seem to have an influx of new members who seem to have some progressive ideas, maybe they would like to be nominated for some official position. If so dont be shy come forward and yourselves be known.
