AGM

here’s what you missed at the AGM, ( from Le Sec as blog doesn’t tell you who is writing!)

20 members were at the start of the meeting, but 3 more drifted in which is about 50% of our total, not a bad turn out.  membership up from last year so we must be doing something right

we’d had 5 new members during the year, and Jonathan pulled down the average age considerably!

We’ve got 6 members with BCF licences, for some strange reason!

We have stock left on club clothing, perhaps Andy can post a list or liaise with Craig about a page on the web site?

Steve gace  us a full report on racing, and again perhaps rather than post in the blog this year we might have a page where Steve can archive all those really interessting snippets  about men in black  riding on secret courses in the dead of night?

Racing sec report

The club runs had been popular as during the year 30 members had taken part, pity they weren’t all out at the same time.

We’d like to try and promote the club more and our ‘older’ members were asked to start at the library and not arrange their own alternatives which lowered the numbers

The runs comp result was fry up Phil 34 points, le Sec 30 and full brekkie craig 29 points

no great surprises in the election of officers , but Richard Creaser is stepping ot help Steve on racing stuff as he fancies some cross riding this year ( open goal anyone?)

Alex is back by popular demand and lack of  interest from anyone else as runs captain, which means Wuilliam should be in line for best young member next year and sarah as most devoted wife!

See Steve for details of club TT events, our open 10 is again on 17th April, and we have resurrected the BAR comp with a 10 event comp whihc Steve and Richard will update as we progress

harry Dixon was clubman of the year with young Al wareham as best young rider

The club dinner is again at grange Moor with Steve ( give me the Trophy) McCall at the helm

6th dec is the club freewheel comp  and will be followed by another luch at the old colonial as the HCA dinner seems to have faded

Club Runs

OK last call for all members to show some interest in the next 3 months club runs. 50 plus members and all i get is a couple responses and most of those were not constructive.I will be attending this weeks club meeting on Thursday and would love to hear your views on where you would like your clubs Sunday rides to be going. If you cant attend then please post any ideas here.. Cheers Alex

June Club meeting

In an attempt to generate more interest in the club affairs here’s a resume of what we did at the club meeting.

11 members present (from membership of over 40!)

marshals are needed for 12 July for the national 100 event please, all you testers!

runs report, Big Al reported that numbers have dipped of late as members are doing sportives, racing etc .  We also discussed and asked that all members out on a Sunday start at the library, as we DO get new riders turning up and we need a presence there to welcome them

A & B rides were again discussed, and as the runs list is due for revision there is an ideal chance to input thoughts on destinations, distances and  A/B runs

It was mentioned that CTC Hudds had produced a runs book using a council grant, and would there be support and interest from Thorpers about doing one aimed at club rides?

This could be sold via shops and also useful if members didn’t know places eg Waddington!

racing sec has been keeping us updated via blog, thanks guys

We have the chance to get funding from kirklees for Thursday evening training sessions, aimed mainly at younger riders and taking place at the club fields

25th july has an Olympic countdown event in Mirfield with cycling races

27th June at Mirfield salvation  army is an event to promote the club along with other community groups, volunteers needed to man any stands etc please

 AOB

Lynda’s ride, charity event run by Dave Sowerby early August £50 entry

Ride from Mirfield to London to support castle hall school, August bank holiday weekend

 next meeting July 9th 8pm

members Info

I am updating the details of members, email addresses etc.

it has been suggested that we circulate lists to subscribing members, if anyone DOESN’T want their details circulating please let me know

About half the club have email that i am aware of but it could be far more when details are checked

Evening Training

Remember everyone this thursday 6pm at the club rooms for a good blast round hartshead circuit. Its ok to be late (Brad) just come up to the circuit and wait for us “all” coming round..

CLUB RUNS

I would like to sort the next tree months club runs out this thursday evening at the club house. There as been lots of great suggestions placed on the blog. if anyone as any more ideas then please let me know or get down on thursday. Also i feel it would be nice to have a full calendar of thorpers events for the summer so if someone could help me with a full list of all the sportives and testers events that members have entered then that would be great too.. Hope to see lots of you Thursday.. Cheers Alex..

making more of club nights

Last week a few of us were talking about what could be done now we have a good base.

Ideas floated were to have a talk on sports massage/physio,  to have someone talk about nutrition and-training, to get some info on other winter training things, such as using those big gym balls to strengthen core muscles, or getting someone to do a talk on bike fitting ( has anyone ever heard of a goniometer?)

We could advertise around the shops and clubs so it wasn’t just RCC?

What do members think? Any other ideas?  Would you support it, how often should we do it and would our hamster colleagues miss a week riding round their wheels to support it?

Club Run - Mirfield to Hollingworth Lake 11/01/2009

Club Run Report 11/01/09 - present were Alex Millman, Doug Tomlinson, Craig Newton, Phil Johnson, Andy Colter and Richard Creaser. All met at the usual place on a cold, blustery day. After a discussion it was decided that we would ride the valley route rather than over the Pennines to try and keep out of the strong head winds. A tough ride up to Hebden Bridge, even in the valleys the winds were heavy going, and here we had a brew. Phil, Andy and Craig headed off for home from here, and the rest continued on to Todmorden and Hollingworth Lake for dinner. After lunch, at last a tail wind that blew us up Blackstone edge and thankfully all the way home. Run stats were 50 miles, average 14.9 mph.
