Lynda’s Ride August 8th 2010
21/07/2010 by Al and Sarah.
Lynda’s Ride is here again and Doug and I will be be supporting this great fundraising event for Kirkwood Hospice. The route is changed this year and now starts in Mirfield and heads for Morecambe on the west coast and comes back over the very challenging Trough of Bowland and Widdup Moor. 150 miles Approx. Now all Thorpers are very welcome to join us but this is for charity so a minimum £100 or very close to it in sponsorship is required. This ride will have a support crew and some food provided. It would be great to have some fellow Thorpers with us so please let me know if you’re interested. Cheers Al
Sunday’s BRCR
20/04/2010 by Martyn.
Hi,
About 300 riders ready to roll on Sunday. I drove the route yesterday to check and there have been loads of potholes filled in, and the road up Holme Moss is being resurfaced
Carlecotes near Dunford Bridge is a mess though, with pot holes and gravel
If anyone could help at the start to register the riders and hand out rider packs, numbers etc it would be appreciated. We are starting at the rugby club at Lockwood at 0700 and hopefully the kitchen will be open fpor strong coffee etc
Anyone available please let me know by email
Thanks
martyn

Could you please ask around at the club as to who is interested in doing Lyndas Ride 09th August 2009. We are finalizing a list of riders for transport and accommodation purposes and we know some people are thinking of riding but have not yet committed. The requirement is to raise £100 sponsorship, or failing that a £50 entry fee is payable by the 25th July 2009.Places are being filled quickly so anyone who is interested needs to contact us as soon as possible. Many thanks

GHS 100 in 8
19/04/2009 by Martyn.
harry did a sterling job handling the entries for the GHS reliability ride and about 15 riders were at dewsbury for the start. Brad rolled in on the 5th chime of nine o’clock!
Riders from bradford and batley also were there and we may attract some to Thorpers web site in the future.
Thorpers were Suggy, Neil Bates, Rob Krawczuk (?) Phil’s brother in law from Thirsk, Phil J, Craig J, Jim Kirrane ( making a rare excursion into group riding!!) Mick the ref, Mike the teach, Brad ,Martin and Martyn
Phil R and Karen appeared at the cafe on the tandem so points there Al!
The good weather saw a return to larger crowds at Pcoklington gardens, although the fish lake was very murky but looked well stocked
As riders settled into their comfotr zones, Brad, Teach and martyn went with 4 riders from est Bradford, one of whom Eddie was a very strong rider and large enough to shelter behind
At Cawood the wakefield club with about 16 riders cruised past on their Sunday run to Boothferry, so we chased them and sat at the back until Sutton on Derwent
We saw the Thorpers groups at Pock arriving in various groups
EBCC set off from Pock at a brisk pace, and after our legs had warmed up we chased them down catching them at Cawood, where a stray rider wiith a broken chain was helped , some riders set off and again ew chased, and chased catching them near Sherburn
The ride was, as the name implies a test of reliability for things to come ,and our group landed back with harry at 3.20pm having lost 15 mins at Cawood, and had 45 mins in the gardens at Pock.
161 kms at 30 kph avg
Challenge Ride entries open NOW!

Please circulate to cycling contacts and email groups, we’ve already got a Thorper entered.
I suggest the club run on 26th April should also try and fit in?
Cycle Challenge gets Olympic recognition
A popular charity cycle challenge held annually in the Pennines around Huddersfield has received the endorsement of one of Britain’s most respected cycling pioneers and former Olympic athlete
The cycle event held on the last Sunday in April (this year 26th) has been developing over the last 3 years and attracted riders from as far afield as London and Scotland. It is a 75 mile circuit taking in stunning scenery and iconic climbs of Pennine hills.
Previously run as the Kirklees Cycle Sportive,(http://www.kirklees.gov.uk/events/eventdetails.asp?evID=6403) the event caused confusion as few riders knew where Kirklees was; indeed some thought it was a Scottish event.
In wishing to firmly establish the event and wishing to commemorate Brian’s achievements ride organiser Martyn Bolt approached Brian and asked if they could use his name for the event.
“After some deliberation and looking at various options for using Brian’s name we chose the Brian Robinson Cycle Challenge, as it exactly says what the event is all about. The ride is aimed at allowing riders to enjoy themselves, raise money for good causes but is without doubt challenging”
Brian Robinson is a Mirfield cyclist, who represented GB in the 1952 Olympic road race along with his brother Desmond. He later went on to achieve further international accolade as a pioneering continental professional cyclist in the 1950s and early ‘60s.
During his career Brian was the first British Cyclist to complete the Tour de France, the first British cyclist to win a stage of the Tour de France and the first rider to win the prestigious Criterium De Dauphine Libere a precursor to the Tour.
Speaking of the event Brian had this to say,
“I have ridden every inch of this route many times myself and I know that riders are in for a memorable experience. We hope that the support on the day in terms of HQ, marshals and feeder stations will make sure cyclists can take the route at whatever speed they like, but they will finish the ride knowing they have had a good work out”
Riders wishing to enter should do so on line at
Enter/Update Entry Online https://www.sportident.co.uk/entries/event.php?event_id=193 Entry List https://www.sportident.co.uk/entries/list.php?event_id=193
The event HQ is by kind permission of Huddersfield RUFC www. huddersfieldrugby.comNews on the charities which will benefit from this year’s event will be announced shortly, previous recipients have been the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Forget me not Trust, and Epilepsy action

The “Not the Kirklees” sportive will hopefully start near Huddersfield centre and use a very similar route to last year.
I am talking to Police , HQ, and other supporters , the ride will run starting at 0900.
Just how big and snazzy depends on sponsors etc
Great Yorkshire Bike ride entries
05/12/2008 by martyn1.
The ride is on 13th June next year. return transport has already sold out.
Anyone wishing to ride MUST pre register online http://www.gybr.co.uk/
Previoously we have done it both ways, if anyone is interested?
Entry provides feeder stations on the way out, we stopped at Filey for lunch and terrington for a snack on the way back
Although the same route the ride is different each way and an early start means that you see many riders on the way back
